FFXIII arrived in the region on December 17th, 2009, and sold 1,501,964 copies in its opening week, whereas FFXIII-2, released on December 15th, 2011 to a naturally larger install base, has only managed 524,217 copies in week one, according to reports.

FF VIII is the winner!
So the "FF" magic is gone?
Bad news for square, they are losing more and more fan each new FF.

I'd imagine FF VIII was leeching off of the success of FF VII, which gave it a better opening week. In the end, that lead to more sales after eight weeks, though, numbers died as people realized the style of RPG was a bit odd with its new, different game play elements.

FF XII showed a renewal of interest, but ultimately, nothing has had the impact on sales that the transition into 3D had.

Edit: XIII-2 was sort of doomed to fail with all of the mixed reviews regarding XIII. Maybe it will start to do better if it proves a good game in its own way.

Ah, I see that "Amazing" was sarcasm.

And yeah, I'm not all that shocked. Still, this is probably going to be a big blow to Square Enix; I'm sure they hoped that this game could help them recuperate from their recent financial losses (FFXIV especially).

Square and Square Enix are not the same company.
Square is Squaresoft, the Squaresoft who made Final Fantasy I/II/III/IV/V/VI/VII (And more)
Square Enix is Square and Enix mixed together.

I'd be happier to see declining FF sales if they were directly correlating to higher Tales sales. Unfortunately not the case.
RIP good games getting localized

The only thing I took from this was "Hey, FF8 kicks ass, and it shows."

EDIT: I think I was tired when I posted. I forgot these were jap sales, lolfail.

Yeah I knew that, but before Squaresoft, they were Square, and I don't want to type Square-Enix each time >.

I have a feeling the game will sell better in the west, and the game is obviously more geared towards us, rather than Japan as in the past.
I mean, its basically the rpg version of COD now.

I think people realised that Square is beating a dead horse by trying bring up XIII again... Not that it matters to me, XIII was the only final fantasy game that I didn't purchase (excluding the online ones)... I hope they get their act together after this. xP
