okay screw it , i am re-installing windows -_- .
honestly, the internet is so boggy, and the computer just slows down randomly .

it's a pissoff .
most likely a virus of some sort , but right now , i don't have the patience and time to search for it or try options .

just when i need it to help people with their work, my computer just decides to be so retarded ..

SPECS:
CPU - AMD Phenom II X2 550BE [not O/Ced]
Mobo - BioStar TA790GX 128M
RAM - OCZ 2x2048MB Gold Edition [or something like that]
GPU - Sapphire ATI Radeon HD 5770

yeh i don't think my comp is getting old xD.

Clearing cache, removing errors in the registry and disabling start up apps

It doesn't do that much but its worth a shot, he might have many start up apps that is causing his computer to slow down.

Random slowdowns and laggy internet eh? Dude, sounds you got malware raging in your system. Either that, or your PC is getting old....you didn't post specs.

For the malware, if you're using Windows, go to Microsoft.com, in the search box, type "Microsoft Security Essentials", install it. Don't even think about it, just do it, it's free and it works well.

There are many other malware removers out there that are free and do their job well:

Ad-Aware Free edition
Spybot Search & Destroy (contains scanner/cleaner and an immunizer)
Spywareblaster (immunizer....prevents spyware from entering your computer)
Malwarebytes Anti-Malware (free edition)
etc.....

Then there's your virus removers.....

You should update and run any or all of those programs at least once a month to keep most of the crap out of your system that slows it down. After you clean it all out, then do a defrag.

You may complain about it taking forever to do all those scans, but it's worth it in the long-run. Many people's computer are slow because they never do basic maintenance. There are other things, such as stopping useless tasks and programs from starting when Windows boots.....but that's quite a bit more than I want to get into.

But no one can deny that a re-format is the BEST way to make a computer seem nice and fast again. Worst thing about re-formatting is setting everything back up they way you had it. Microsoft always uses such ridiculous default settings on everything that it takes days to get all the settings back to the way you had it. I hate re-formatting. Heh, this PC I'm on now has been running on the same format for about 4 years. Scanning and cleaning is just easier and much faster than re-formatting.

The worst thing about reformatting is re-opening security holes that malware uses to infect you in the first place.

FINDING THE PROBLEM is a requirement to fixing it.

Let's not shotgun solutions at him when we don't even know what's up.

Well we know the problem is his computer getting infected while watching questionable porn.
Or non-questionable porn, at a questionable site.

hmm...
even after re-installing Windows, the problem still persists .
the only thing that i can describe is that the computer will just freeze for a good 30 seconds then it will unfreeze and everything will start working again .

now im thinking that the whole problem is just hiding somewhere in the HDD ...
maybe it's hidden . i have no idea ...
then i get thoughts it might be related to the mobo or CPU crashing since i have gotten BSOD a LOT .
i hibernate my computer rather than shutting it down and the next day when i start it up, it says my computer didn't shut down properly .

on a daily basis, i've seen it happen, my computer freezes, then i get BSOD .

Maybe a overheating problem? Still, just go through the hard drives and delete everything that you dont need.. And maybe get a better internet connection

My uni laptop is about ten or 12 years old.

Lenovo
Intel Celeron 1.50 GHz processor (ugh...seriously shitty)
504 megabytes of ram

I basically chucked out everything that was inefficient. (I used AVG antivirus before, and it slowed it down to a crawl - now using Avira.) I use Foxit to read .pdf(s) and throw everything else onto a separate usb hard drive. Norton is basically the worse for it...

Also, I have a laptop cooler under my machine and I use a lot of other stuff to support it....it's an aging workhorse.

I don't have anything frivioulous on my computer - well..maybe a few pirated games (Age of Empires 2)...and Creatures.
