I switched se_data.sdat file from japanese to US version and it gave me japanese voices but I have a little problem, beacuse after a while from starting the game (in the cave right after battle tutorial) the game ends with "Thanks for playing" screen. When I'm using not hacked US version I can play with out any of those screen after this tutorial... I am now checking if everything is ok when I am using hacked version in other place after this battle tutorial. I hope that everything will be fine beacuse US dub is horrible... And one more question to people who played japanese version are there any voices in movies? Beacuse if there are I will switch also the movie files:]

    EDIT:
After playing a bit when I have gone to this cave another time and tried to get back to town it gave me the same screen and restart game. Do anyone have any idea why is that hapening?

I have Supercard DSOne (SDHC) and I can play unhacked version without any problems, but after I am switching those two files and pack the rom with DSLazy sometime this happens and it is irritating a little... When I am patching other roms (JUS, FF4 or so) they are playing without any problem so I don't now why is something like that hapening... Maybe it is some kind of protection against rom hacking and when rom size is diferent something like that happens... dunno, hope that someone will help me with this problem...

@Tha-Rik to undub games you need to pull apart the rom. This can be done with ndstool or the frontends DSLazy and DSBuff or one of many other tools (I have posted in several threads in this very section on the subject)

DS roms mainly use the so called sdat format (less than 5 that I know of do not and I keep my eye for ones that do not).
The crudest form is simply to swap other regions (normally Japanese) sound file into the rom (with same name) and rebuild. This has been done for years now ( http://gbatemp.net/old/index.php?showtopic=29842 this is my first back in January 2006 and although it is not quite the same I am pretty sure people swapped files (standard wave files and one of the few roms not to use the format) in electroplankton before that)

Many times though this does not work as the files are not exactly the same, as there are no programs to rebuild SDAT files you have to swap things by hand to make the new file the same as the old when it comes to the SDAT file/archive system.
SDAT sound specs (search around this forum as well as there are quite a few sound related threads):

Edit there does seem to be a repacker now, going to have to try this one out:

    Offtopic:

I'm not a pro at this, but I tried to extract the sound files using ndsnext from tony hawks skateland. After that I inserted my own wav in the folder with wavs (overwriting a previous one first of course).

But rebuilding the rom doesn't work quite that well... I mean, I can extract them but rebuilding them with the tool provided doesn't work since it outputs 0b sdat file.

Maybe I have to use another way to extract the sdat file first before I swap the files ? I just say this since some folders the program searches for aren't present in the output of ndsnext.

They are not wave files in the sdat archive (although they do use common formats found in wave files), what you have is the converted files.

Have a read, crystaltile2 has sound capabilities (albeit fairly broken) which should help you narrow it down.

I did some work with Tony Hawks way back. I seem to recall a fairly odd samplerate was used (readable from the header though).

It's not the hacking that's causing the problem I'm using a clean US rom and I keep getting the 'thank you for playing' screen and sent back to the beginning.

or you can just use nitroexplorer 1.2 (or get version 2, still beta stage though) to extract or replace file. i use that app to un-dub my bleach game.

and about the thank you screen, it seem to be some kind of new protection or something. they're talking about it at http://gbatemp.net/index.php?showtopic=779...0&start=180

Ok, sorry for being stupid.. I was able to extract and recreate the whole thing using Sdat tool for extraction and the editor tool for compression.

There is now just one thing left:

How do I get my mp3/wav, whatever files to the strm files format ? I got a converter that converts from strm to wav, but the backwards way ?
