Fan-made Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Sky remake announced as a Rescue Team DX ROM hack

thumby.jpg

When it comes to Pokemon spin-offs, none are more beloved than the Mystery Dungeon games. Bringing monster collection and the charm of the larger series to the random environments and natural replayability of Mystery Dungeon titles, Spike Chunsoft hit it out of the gate with the debut games Red and Blue Rescue Team. Having recently revisited those titles in 2020 with Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Rescue Team DX, fans of the series have been patiently waiting for the next game to get the same series. Four years later they’re still waiting.

Explorers of Sky, the enhanced version of Explorers of Time and Darkness before it, is renowned as the peak of the series in terms of both content and storytelling. For those wanting to re-experience this stellar title in a new light there’s some good news, though not from Spike Chunsoft or the Pokemon Company.

Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers DreamNexus (shortened to DNX) is a fan-made ROM hacking project for Rescue Team DX that’s attempting to bring an enhanced Explorers title to the Switch, using the DreamNexus editor by techtinks. The first trailer for the project released yesterday, with a demo containing Chapter 1 planned to launch later this year. In the trailer you can see parts of the game's opening including a new starter selection with fourth generation Pokemon, the Beach Cave dungeon, and a brief glimpse of Treasure Town and its inhabitants.

Those interested in following the project can do so by joining the Project Explorers Discord or following the SwitchEOS Twitter account.

There's too much doom and gloom in this thread. It's like people have forgotten how to be excited about an upcoming fan project.
I, for one, am excited to see the fans do what The Pokemon Company and Spike Chunsoft aren't intelligent enough to do.

It's not that we forgot how to be excited about a project, it's that time and time again it has been shown what happens in these situations, but developers never learn. No sense in getting excited about something that won't come to fruition.

That's nice. It look different and weird in game.

I'm no longer interest in Pokemon games anymore. My old favorite Pokemon games are on GameBoy Advance only. But Pokemon games are great for all kids and teens. Not for me. I prefer mature RPG games more than kids games. B-)

@SDA remind me how you haven't gotten banned yet?

For a moment I thought this was a GBA hack, then realized I was thinking about Red Rescue Team EX. I wouldn't complain about playing Explorers of Sky on my GBA. Good luck to the team, both with dodging Nintendo's legal team and not stalling partway through.

Spike Chunsoft’ is going to publish 4 games this year alone, one of which is going to be the most completed of the franchise (Dragon Ball) since ever. Since Rescue Team DX came out, they’ve developed 8 games in total. How can you claim it’s about “intelligence”?
I say it's about intelligence because a remake of Explorers, even with minimal effort, would be an infinite money printer. Explorers of Sky is one of the most beloved Pokemon games of all time, I have no doubt a remake would sell like hotcakes.

i think you're missing the point here my friend, it's simply just that the announcement time was just completely inappropriate and irresponsible, majority of us here are simply just not okay with not calling it what it is as there's nothing else to be said, I personally would love to be optimistic as much as the next gal but it becomes really hard because of what's already been said and the fact that it's been announced on twitter as well, it's unfortunately game set and match.

does atmosphere redirect all system error logs (the ones you can check in system settings) to the SD card? If so, does it store them exclusively on the SD card or does it let the system store them on the eMMC as usual?
