The Reel icon apparently corresponds to the NAND flash if you put a 256 GBA game into it, something in that icon should show up on the DS menuÂ

I already fixed that part

how fast does the miniSD have to be to run DS roms effectively? Can someone recommend a mini sd card to me?

does different media yield a noticably different battery life?

I see that the interface is a Mac OS interface. Will there be a Mac OS version anytime?
(I am currently running virtual pc exclusively to handle my G6 software)

Is the save system easier than the G6? I have had an EZFA before, this is a similar card/interface etc? It seems to be a battery save system, is there any way around this? (you wouldnt believe how many saved games i've lost over the years on my old EZFA, I think the G6 implemented something like this, but my card finally died today before I ever tried it out).

I saw (what I think were) protype images on the ez flash forum and it stuck out of the slow maybe 2 cm, the images of the review show it the same size as the slot. Do I have this right?

Thanks for the review.

I can see what you're getting at, but the point is I had to review the product as is, not what it will be in the future, and people were already crying out for a review so I don't know if a delay would have been the best thing to do.

yeah, I know. that's why I conceded there was an immediate demand for the review, so it needed to be done. But you know, the first gbatemp review of the M3 didn't come until the M3 vs. SC comparo on Dec 27, 2005. It had already been out months at that point. I'm not saying the EZ4 shouldn't have been reviewed now, just that it's an unfair situation they brought on themselves by coming to the market with their NDS solution so late. I don't feel sorry for them or anything - I gots no brand loyalty in the flashcart market and I don't own anything from EZFlash. I just think the circumstances have to be considered when evaluating the product. It's like reviewing the Wii or PS3 three weeks after they launch and concluding that they aren't as good as the XB360 because the 360 has more games.

It does not stick out at all on a standard DS, but it will on a DS Lite.

It's not always the speed of the mini-SD that matters, it's often the quality as well. there is a good list here: http://m3wiki.emuparadise.org/index.php/Media_Card
Although it's for the M3, I guess there'll be very similar results for the EZ4.

To be honest I haven't tested the battery life, but it seems fine to me, maybe a little bit shorter than normal due to the fact that it constantly reads from the mini-SD - it's probably very similar to the battery life when using the M3.

No Mac version yet unfortunately, and I haven't heard of any plans for one.

When you turn the DS back on after playing a game, it writes a file directly to the SD card, so unless your SD card fails you can't lose your saves, and it makes for easy backing up too.

Why is it 8/10 with perfect GBA support when the SC Mini has terrible GBA support and gets 8.5/10?

Your scoring system isn't consistent. The EZ4 is easily better than the SC Mini, but to people who are going to make purchasing decisions based on these reviews they will think the SC Mini is a better buy.

You should adjust all of your flashcart scores to reflect developments in technology. a 9/10 flashcart 2 years ago is not a 9/10 flashcart today.

Just a suggestion.

I think the scores are right. Today Ds compatabilty is more important than GBA support. When and If the EZ4 can match the Supercard with DS roms then it will be ahead because of it's superior GBA suppport. Encouragingly the EZ4 only needs to fix 2 or 3 ..(Tony Hawks is the big title of these for me).. key titles to be on par DS wise, hopefully this will come soon.

I own both btw. I love both cards.

You're right, and to be honest the only big thing you'd be missing is support and regular software updates (companies always support their newest products the most) - and the ability to use removable media obviously.
