HAY GUISE:
As some of you may already know I own and iPod and blabla. It's an iPod video (30gb) and I use the original OS along with iTunes. Anyway, since I don't have that much free space left on my HD I was thinking about using my iPod as both mp3 player and portable HD (which I kinda do), but I'd like to keep my music on it, and not having to save both the song on "normal" mode with the iTunes and disc mode with Windows explorer (then it'd take twice the space it does and it's slow and such things, you know...). Well, is there any way to extract songs from the iPod that were previously inserted via iTunes? I know you can access to those with the explorer, but they're sorted in such way that it'd be stupid to extract them...
Well, any program, method... anything?

Thanks a lot , guys.

edit: oh yeah! please omit comments like GET YOURSELF A USB HD INSTEAD. Thanks

Yeah, refugio, that's what I kinda do but the problem comes when I want to share with any of my friends after listening to something I like

Thanks to both of you! More answers are welcomed (since simpson17's program seems to be more like, for extracting the whole of the ipod rather than just a punctual song at a time which is what I'm most interested about). Thanks!

CopyPod (which has apparently been renamed to "CopyTrans").

Edit: I just looked... around on the internet and it can be found for free. CopyPod, that is - I couldn't find CopyTrans where I looked.

so Im guessing your on windows then?

I think ipodrip is for mac, but it may be for windows as well. Im a mac user, so I wouldn't know. But I got that, got a serial real quick and have used it trouble free a couple of times.

there is a link for ya, not sure what the limitations of the trial are, if I remember right, you can use it five times then you must buy.

good luck!

After you extracted your music, what do you think of changing the firmware to have something Ituneless and working as a REAL hard drive storage, with sorting music with directories as you like ?

I extracted original firmware, appended a linux booting firmware, and written it back.
Now when booting, it runs Rockbox first, and if booting and pressing Down it run Ipod original firmware.
Rockbox can read more audio format (Flac for example), show pictures, games etc.

I have a 4th grayscale 30Go. This version has a little CPU bug witch hang, but I think IpodVideo is working fine.

The only bad effect is the battery life, my 4Th generation is lasting 4-5hours only, instead of 12 with original ipod firmware.
Ipod video seems to have better battery lifetime.

For installation, read very carefully. don't go too fast or you may miss a step.
now I'm using only rockbox, even if batterylife is bad, it's so good to not use Itunes anymore
