I always thought that there was no way to watch wii videos until I found thpPlay on the interwebs. Amazingly it plays nearly all gamecube games and wii videos that have the thp extension. I got so into it that I started extracting videos with wiiscrubber and most of them didn't play or were clipped awkwardly... here are some pics...

    [IMG] [IMG]

These clips are from Tatsunoko Vs Capcom (U). The audio plays perfectly but the issue is the video. Something's wrong with these videos and I don't know what it is. I also found buggy videos in Punch Out and Smash Bros Brawl.

Some videos even appear to be blank and thpPlay won't even play them. I was thinking that it might have something to do with the cIOS not having the necessary functions to allow the backup loader to rip a 1:1 copy of a game... but if so then it wouldn't play on the console either when it actually does. [IMG] I don't know much about the IOSes to keep on guessing... [IMG] Anybody know why this is happening?

I extrated some .thp videos from Shiren and they play flawlessly =P
I rip them directly from my retail disc using WiiXplorer
    I'm using thpPlay 1.5

Hmm... I'm also using thpPlayer 1.5 since it's the only version available on the internet but I wasn't aware that WiiXplorer also extracted content from the disc. How do you make it read from the contents of a backup on an external HDD? Can it?

I think it could eventually read a backup, since it adopt the format of a Wii game, I could recomend you use a non scrubed ISO for this. And not sure if it could make the job from an external HDD tbh.

I was reluctant to use my retail discs because I've got them all on my HDD (it would be awesome if they could all be read). Anyway, I tried inserting a disc into the drive while running WiiXplorer and it wouldn't read its contents...

I just tried extracting a .thp from a backup using Dolphin's ISO browser and I got the same exact file even with the same CRC32. Then I tried running the backup on the emulator and the video in fact played properly.

Why can't I extract the video and play it as it should be played???

If you want upload a small sized video file thp, and I could test it, then check if there's a problem with the file itself or somethings is wrong with your thpPlay.

That could work and I'd really appreciate it! However, the only file I've got my hands on atm are slightly big... how do you feel about downloading something like 150MB? [IMG]

Why don't you try with your retail disc and WiiXplorer?
I think is a secure option.

I did. It worked for Punch Out but when I extracted the cinematics from Smash Bros Brawl almost all of them turned out like this: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=SK0BQO06 (download it to have a looksie, it's less than 1MB). It's not because of the filesize, there are other 30+MB videos that don't work in thpPlay or mplayer either.

It's a clip with enough filesize to hold video and audio but shows neither. When I open it in mplayer/smaplyer no clip properties are displayed, it's as if there was no header in that video...

Sorry for bumping an old thread.

I just want to make sure that Smash Bros Brawl is in fact NOT 100% playable from a backup launcher or emulator. My main reason for believing this is that no Wii tool has successfully extracted specific content from the disc. I tried WiiScrubber (from a 1:1 dump with SuperDumper), WiiXplorer (from my retail disc) and Dolphin (has a built-in file explorer).

What's more, if I try to play this content the game just crashes. I've tried it by playing the THPs within the game that are not extractable. These are the ones that ARE extractable:

    01-00.thp
    03-01.thp
    04-00.thp
    04-02.thp
    09-00.thp
    09-01.thp
    10-02.thp
    16-01P.thp
    16-01Z.thp
    27-00.thp
    28-00.thp
    28-01.thp
    28-02.thp
    32-00.thp
    33-00.thp
    33-01.thp
    37-00.thp
    37-02.thp
    HowtoPlay.thp
    OPMovie.thp

If anybody can successfully extract any clip from Super Smash Bros Brawl not on this list and play it please explain to me how it was done!
