Although Microsoft may have closed Lionhead Software down, and canceled Fable Legends, it seems like the Fable series still has a shot at life, via Fable Fortune, a free-to-play card-based video game. According to the Ex-Lionhead staff in an interview with IGN, the game was in development for 18 months before the company was shut down. The game will be coming to Kickstarter, from "indie" developer Flaming Fowl Studios, comprised of former Lionhead staff such as Craig Oman, Mike West, and Marcus Lynn. While Microsoft has given Flaming Fowl permission to continue using the Fable license, they won't be publishing the game. This is why they've bought the game to Kickstarter. The crowd-funding campaign will begin on May 31, and will require £250,000 over the course of 4 weeks, in addition to multiple stretch goals.

Shame that the last "good" game they made was on the original Xbox, the rest was a festival of mediocrity. I liked Lionhead better when they were called Bullfrog.

£250,000 !!! Gonna be interesting to see if this gets funded, I would assume it won't. 6 month dev time or something? How the hell can that cost a quarter million pounds.

It depends on the original license agreement. Notice how not all games made by Lionhead were actually published by Microsoft - Black & White games were published by EA. Perhaps Lionhead had a clause in their acquisition agreement that they're retaining the copyright on their IP's in exchange for exclusive platform rights. Things can be pretty complicated with second-party companies.

The first Fable game was good. Can't really say about the sequels and others as I haven't played them.
IIRC, Black & White was developed by Lionhead Studios, I think it was a good god game.
