Instead of stealing your mother's money, why don't you sell your maintenance mode-fixed PAL Wii instead?

You need a sata port. Depending on the drive you might need a via one specifically.

Thats it. Compatable SATA + the hacked firmware files. Thats all you need. Unless you have a 79FK/L hitachi , then you need a 79 passkey.

first find out what drive you have, there are 4 versions:

samsung (flash it with ixtreme 1.3 firmware)
hitachi 46,47,59 (flash it with ixtreme 1.2 firmware)
benq (flash it with ixtreme 1.1 firmware)
hitachi 79 (flash it with firmware toolbox 4.5, requires passkey device that needs to be soldered)

for the samsung/benq drives i use a sata pci card with vt6421 chipset.
for the hitachi drives i use a sata pci card with sil3112 chipset.

these pci sata cards are 10 euro each on ebay [IMG]

So let me get this straight..

    - All known 360 drives are flashable?
    - The only one that isn't flashable without additional equipment is the Hitachi 79FK/L and that can be worked around using the Maximus Passkey?

My 360 has RROD and am waiting for a replacement. I need to flash a mates 79FL so have bought a passkey, which I am now thinking I should hold off doing his with until I get mine. Either way they don't need to be permanently attached right? [IMG]

Yes , thats right. All are flashable cept the 79 which needs the passkey first. You can take it out after flashing and stick it in another drive to flash that. How ever doing this would mean having to refit it if an updated firmware came out and you wanted to use it , as even with the hacked firmware on the drive , you lose the ablity to flash once the passkey is taken out.

This point in the topic seems like a good place for me to slide a question in. [IMG]

Games are starting to get a little costly on my budget and I am curious of looking into this again. Now I have a refurbed xbox and I haven't checked which drive is in it just yet. But my question lies outside of that part anyways. Here's the Q:

Is there a way of knowing if the current sata controller I have will be acceptable for this process without actually attempting it? A list or something?

Actually, might as well mention that the chipset is a VIA VT8237. Other than that, I'm sure I can track down the rest of the info myself when I feel like it as I'm still not on the bandwagon just yet. I play on Xbox Live a lot and after seeing the first set of bannings, I have a very hard time believing that it won't happen again.

Don't think there is a specific list anywhere , so you might just have to look around , but from memory (so might be a bit off).

Hitachi up to 78 drives. Anything will do.
Hitachi 78/79 , anything but silicon image.
Samsung ms25 anything but silicon image.
Samsung ms28 , via based chipset , unless you want to solder.
BenQ , nforce or via , unless you want to solder.

As for banning , with ixtreme you're pretty safe. Only people who got banned in the last lot were

Hitachi owners as there was no stealth for them back then.
People using non stealth or incorrectly stealthed backups. Loads got banned using the scene release of crackdown I think , as it wasn't stealthed right.

Of course there is no 100% safe , but so far it's been , use stealth and you are fine.

Speaking of stealth, how do you check your backup to make sure it's stealth enabled?

You can use something like XDVDMulleter. Feed it the iso and it will tell you all the details , stealth , region free etc. I think latest version can even check iso against database to see if it matches retail.

Most games if not ALL come pre patched w/ SS files.

It has different methods of flashing depending on if you have a samsung/hitachi/BenQ.
