    What? :rofl2:
"then that's when you know your remaining days of relevancy are numbered."

You do realize that Fortnite is almost canonically a Marvel universe too?
You do realize that next week Fortnite is having the biggest live event in a video game ever in collab with Marvel and Lucasfilm?
12.5 millions users connected at the same time in the last event, projected to be even more than that in next week's event. :)

But nah, according to some random dude in GBATemp Fortnite is not relevant anymore :)

11.99 is quite steep. I'd wager that mostly streamers and very serious power players would spend that kind of money.

The word almost is doing way too much heavy lifting in this sentence. You might as well say that you or I are "almost" canonically in the Marvel universe.

Hasn't been for a while, its player count and revenue has been dropping off hard. They wouldn't be bothering to add subscriptions if everything was going hunky-dory as things stand now.

I mean, if dropping hard means 7 million active players right this very second, that's still better than PUBG or other competitors have ever been...

Plenty of other games have been using this model for years now, I highly doubt that it's because the game is "dying". Epic's just using their more loyal playerbase to fill their wallets for more exclusive buyouts. It's fair to hate the game for whatever reasons, but it's clear that it's still more successful than most games ever will be, and Epic knows what they're doing when it comes to making bank.

It's a F2P game, I'm pretty sure there are smartphone games which completely blow that number out of the water.

I think Epic's upper management is fairly careless with expenditures, and iPhone revenue was huge portion of Fortnite revenue before Sweeney went all nerdrage on Apple. For all we know, their internal books show they're flat broke.

For their internal books? Your guess is as good as mine, I'm only speculating based on what I know about the company's past and some of the individuals at the top.

For iPhone revenue being a large portion of overall game revenue, Epic is losing $26 million a month and their overall mobile playerbase has declined more than 60% since their ban from the app store.

"milking your customers during a pandemic"

Uh, you know people make a decision to buy this stuff. Nothing shady here.

How is this any different from nintendo selling costumes in super smash brothers?

$12 a month is less than 50¢ a day - the equivalent to buying a couple gumballs from a gumball machine

It's a bit different when you know most of the subscribers will be children using their parents' credit cards. The $12 a month may not seem like much, but that's on top of whatever skins they've already bought, and AFAIK those can cost up to $100 individually (Jesus Christ).

The most expensive skins are 2000 vbucks, which is 16$/17$.
Knowing that if you are smart enough you can get every skin you want for free by just playing the Save the World game mode.

This is literally nothing compared to Valorant's weapon wraps price for exemple. :)

    Stop with the misinformation.

Yes and no, some games are far more blatant about targeting children to "hook 'em young" than others. CoD I don't think intentionally went for the pre-teen crowd (initially), but the simplicity of the game mechanics and the "realistic" graphics attracted that audience in the majority nonetheless. Fortnite, OTOH, is quite clearly a game Epic wants kids to start playing well before they turn ten, because they know there's a limited window of interest there.

Even as a Fortnite player all this bullshit of constant crossovers and now this subscription service is starting to get on my nerves

Chill, homie. I never even played Fortnite. I'm literally saying that it IS free to play and that *maybe* it would be more apt for the person I was quoting to say "pay to win" if that was his opinion.

I never even claimed that I personally thought it was pay to win.

We literally both agree that the game is free to play so I don't know why you have to get so aggressive with your comments and the "low IQ" talk.

But you're right, if the only benefit to paying is for cosmetics (again I never played and never implied otherwise) then it can't be considered pay to win either.

Still don't understand why so much people are mad over what Xzi says, he ain't that much wrong.

Doesn't make it bad to enjoy Fortnite tho, but making points like « people do take decisions to buy that » is besides the actual point and is also denying the fact that there's a whole thing called « marketing » where people are actually exploiting the flaws of the human mind in order to make you want to buy stuff you don't actually need. Denying that there is at least some questionning about Fortnite targeting children is dishonnest.
If we were like « oh but people do take decisions to buy lootboxes in Battlefront 2 so it's okay and shut up people do what the fuck they want with their money » we wouldn't have the whole debacle of lootboxes and Battlefront 2, it would have been even worse. In fact, that is exactly this kind of mentality that brought up lootboxes in the first place with Fifa games. It appears that some people do enjoy spending money on Fifa via a litteral casino machine, does it make it okay ? By denying the fact that there's even a question to be asked, you are ignoring that this may be do more harm than good, then you'll complain about how the industry has gotten much worse and will not understand why people didn't see it coming.

To be fair, Fortnite ain't that bad MTX wise, there are way worse aggressive games with microtransactions and it still brought up the Battle Pass which had a pretty good value honestly, even tho I don't like battle passes that much, it still way better than the lootboxes we used to have before in other games, so it's not all that bad. But a subscription ? lmao that's stupid af, it's the same price than an MMO sub, which is already freaking expensive imho, the same as a Netflix account, it's just expensive and stupid imho. People still do whatever they want with their money, I just don't want this to become an option for all available games. Those guys need to understand that there's not a lot of people who are willing to pay a subscription to play their video games.
But yeah, Fortnite ain't that bad, not at all, I would say that PUBG is even worse by far tbh (tho I did play more PUBG than Fortnite). Too bad Epic is just full of bullshit these times, even if I can defend Fortnite, I can't defend Epic at all.
