A new feature is coming to Fortnite, in the form of a paid monthly subscription. When Fortnite launches Chapter 2 Season 5, it'll also debut Fortnite Crew, an $11.99/mo subscription, which gives players access to the game's Battle Pass, 1,000 V-Bucks, and a special cosmetic outfit. Currently, access to the Fortnite Battle Pass on its own costs 950 V-Bucks, and lasts for multiple months which is overall a much cheaper price, however the items included within the Fortnite Crew monthly bundles are exclusive, and will not be obtainable through any methods other than subscribing. Fornite's next season, and the Fortnite Crew subcription will go live on December 2nd.

It's a bit different when you know most of the subscribers will be children using their parents' credit cards. The $12 a month may not seem like much, but that's on top of whatever skins they've already bought, and AFAIK those can cost up to $100 individually (Jesus Christ).

The most expensive skins are 2000 vbucks, which is 16$/17$.
Knowing that if you are smart enough you can get every skin you want for free by just playing the Save the World game mode.

Yes and no, some games are far more blatant about targeting children to "hook 'em young" than others. CoD I don't think intentionally went for the pre-teen crowd (initially), but the simplicity of the game mechanics and the "realistic" graphics attracted that audience in the majority nonetheless. Fortnite, OTOH, is quite clearly a game Epic wants kids to start playing well before they turn ten, because they know there's a limited window of interest there.

Doesn't make it bad to enjoy Fortnite tho, but making points like « people do take decisions to buy that » is besides the actual point and is also denying the fact that there's a whole thing called « marketing » where people are actually exploiting the flaws of the human mind in order to make you want to buy stuff you don't actually need. Denying that there is at least some questionning about Fortnite targeting children is dishonnest.
If we were like « oh but people do take decisions to buy lootboxes in Battlefront 2 so it's okay and shut up people do what the fuck they want with their money » we wouldn't have the whole debacle of lootboxes and Battlefront 2, it would have been even worse. In fact, that is exactly this kind of mentality that brought up lootboxes in the first place with Fifa games. It appears that some people do enjoy spending money on Fifa via a litteral casino machine, does it make it okay ? By denying the fact that there's even a question to be asked, you are ignoring that this may be do more harm than good, then you'll complain about how the industry has gotten much worse and will not understand why people didn't see it coming.

To be fair, Fortnite ain't that bad MTX wise, there are way worse aggressive games with microtransactions and it still brought up the Battle Pass which had a pretty good value honestly, even tho I don't like battle passes that much, it still way better than the lootboxes we used to have before in other games, so it's not all that bad. But a subscription ? lmao that's stupid af, it's the same price than an MMO sub, which is already freaking expensive imho, the same as a Netflix account, it's just expensive and stupid imho. People still do whatever they want with their money, I just don't want this to become an option for all available games. Those guys need to understand that there's not a lot of people who are willing to pay a subscription to play their video games.
