Deer are all over the damn place in Virginia (where US thanksgiving is supposed to be from), they're constantly eating the flowers in people's yards, and they even extend hunting season sometimes just so people can try to thin the herd a bit more. Up in the maintains it's not very heavily populated with people as near the cities, thus the extension (since there's not as many people hunting as you'd think).

You'd be surprised. People in the cities seem to think everyone in the countryside hunts. I'm a licensed stalker but I dare not mention it IRL most of the time due to everyone associating hunting and population control with sick fucks who like to watch dogs rip animals apart. I've even had people purposely ruin shots on alien species and on very lame animals before...
