My console is on 5.1, I've been using SX Pro, I thought about using emunand, updating to the latest firmware, then using an official cartridge to play online (e.g. smash bros).

Is that even possible, or will I be banned?

Sigh, if you've ever used SX OS and gone online there's a chance you'll be banned

Running emunand for nsps and using sysnand for orig cartilage won't get you banned. The sysnand has no trace of CFW or anything. The Nintendo folder is untouched.

I've been playing smash online every day on sysnand, since it got released and I still haven't been banned.

I boot into emunand and install my nsps from to time too

No one has reported bans yet for running emunand / sysnand combo

Just make sure you boot sysnand in ofw mode and not cfw mode. And make sure your emunand is not connected to the wifi at all

    You'll be fine

But recent games (original cartridges) don't ask you to update your switch (sysnand) in order to play them online or play them at all ?

yeah they do, but the newest version of sxos works for sysnand being on 7.0. and a hidden partition emunand on a lower fw.

when you boot from emunand, you still have sx os boot.dat and license files on SD card, which is detectable for Ninty, so it's not safe to use emunand to go online

That's assuming they scan your SD card, which could be considered invasion of privacy. For all we know, they could be legally bound to not scan anything outside of the Nintendo folder.

Exactly, Nintendo doesn’t have any business accessing my porn folder on SD card.

It is technically possible for them do, but we have no proof of that happening for now afaik.
IMO the "for now" is basically the important part. It would be pretty easy for Nintendo to simply have the console sent a file list for the root of the sd and have anyone with boot.dat flagged for a ban. But so far they have not, idk if they ever will. Thing is: They could.
So it again boils down to: If you don't want to be banned then don't hack your console or at least never take it online. Pretty much ANY precaution we can take can at some point be circumvented by Nintendo.

So rn it's save. At some point it might be only save if you use a different sd card. At some point it might not be save anymore.

i dont think its that they (nintendo) can access your porn folder. the game may just look for a certain directory (perhaps). some ios apps look for the /cydia directory, and when recognized, the app quits. im not saying the switch is an apple device, but the process may be similar.

This is why I power off and take out my sd card when I am done playing for a while. emunand on SD so nitty never sees my SD if the switch boots for some reason its gone.

Guessing you've been using NSPs and XCIs on SX OS on sysnand up to now? Unless you have a clean NAND backup from before you did anything dodgy, then there is likely telemetry on your console that will get it banned if you go online, even if you move your dodgy stuff to emunand and uninstall everything dodgy on sysnand.

A clean sysnand that has never run homebrew or NSPs/XCIs paired with emunand seems to be safe to take online so far.

I've never went online,, and I do have a backup. If I restore & do everything you posted above, you think I'll be safe to go online with Smash Bros?

I just used Xcis so far on my Switches Sysnand by using SXOS. No NSPs cause i thought just using Xcis would be safer. On top of that my console was offline the whole time since i got SXOS. Now i want to install EMUNAND and later go online with just the Sysnand and original games. Whats the safest way to do this? Factory reset my console? Or something else? Im not sure if i might made a NAND Backup before first booting into SXOS, but if i did (which i will look up soon) i created it with the menu of SXOS itself. Would that be safer than a factory reset? Juts in case i can find that NAND Backup how do i restore a NAND Backup? And how do i factory reset my console in case that would be safer?

On top of that: How should i update my Sysnand? Using this Chou....thing or just the "normal" nintendo way? And is it safe to got to 7.1 already? I have so many questions on how to get the safest solution. Is there any detailed tutorial on getting your console to SXOS EMUNAND the safest and cleanest way anywhere?

And is there any reason to prefer NSP or XCI over the other?

    Thanks for help!

Should be fine but no guarantees.

    — Posts automatically merged - Please don't double post! —

Factory reset doesn't remove telemetry. Nand restore does. As long as the NAND is from a clean state (sysnand with no dodgy software or homebrew installed) and you've been offline the whole time you've been using dodgy stuff on sysnand you should be fine.

NAND backup made in the SXOS bootloader will be fine.

Once you have emunand set up you use choixdujournx to update emunand and you can use game carts or Nintendo's servers to update sysnand.
