EmuNAND files on sd card vs hidden partition
i would like to know the pros and cons for each method?

If using hidden partition emuNAND can it be copyed? if card corrupted.
Could I even access that? Or copy it? how would I wipe that and start a new one would the nand back restore wipe that or not? How Would I format wipe the partition.
what are the benefits of hidden partition pls or just using files on sd card?
I haven’t seen much info ?about the two types to let me choose the best one for me

emunand as a file doesnt format you sd card while the hidden partition does.
A emunad as a file is gone too if you sd caard is corrupted (which oinly tends to happen if you use exfat so dont bother with exfat imo) while a hidden partition is unaffected.

Later on you can always remove the partion with programms like easeus.

With it as a hidden partition if corrupted u could save u emuNAND then? Would u just restore the nand then install cfw and copy emuNAND back after u get set up?

He means a corrupted FAT partition. The files on the SD would be lost but the emunand, which is at the very beginning of the SD and not in a partition, would be unaffected. But corruptions mostly occur when the user makes mistakes (turning the console off/ removing the SD while saving as example) or with exFAT.

If the file curupted everything is lost unless another partition. Was trying to find out how it could be restored if that happened?

Just in regards to the hidden emunand partition on the sd card, I've tried several clone software on the PC to see if I can make a clone of the entire sd card to migrate to another (larger) sd card.
Unfortunately, the software used can't clone the hidden partition, it sees the first partition as unallocated with 0 space used, but the software was able to see the second data partition.
When you try to clone, it skips the hidden partition and just starts to clone the second partition.
Unless there is another better cloning software out there that can do this or else it looks like l have to bite the bullet and start form scratch a again if I decide to get a larger sd card. Or I just go back to the emunand files on sd card, but I'd prefer the hidden partition.

Any thoughts?

If u can’t clone the partition it seems like a bad idea to make the partition. Sure it dosnt get corrupted but if u can’t clone it might as well be corrupted. And it boxes u in if u wanna copy emuNAND like u said to another sd card lol

Use dd on linux, macos or windows to backup and restore emunand from the hidden partition.
dd bs=1024 if=/dev/rdisk2 of=/Users/khoa/Desktop/boot0.bin skip=1 count=4096
dd bs=1024 if=/dev/rdisk2 of=/Users/khoa/Desktop/boot1.bin skip=4097 count=4096
dd bs=1024 if=/dev/rdisk2 of=/Users/khoa/Desktop/rawnand.bin skip=8193 count=30535680

still dont see the use of hidden partition. You could always use the file to sd option and then just back up on your PC, in the cloud, NAS etc.

I've got a question. If you get your SD corrupted and it has the emunand in the hide partition, Can you just do a quick format to the SD card in Windows and reinstall your .nsp? Is that possible, or the emunand will be erased with that quick format? Sorry if this a dumb question (and sorry about my english too :-P)

Yes you can simply format it and restore files and nsp xci... The hidden partition will stay there unless you fully repartition your sd card with special software

Idk I may not even bother using emu nand...after updating this to 7.0.1 with linking my account I'm gonna back it up the nand again and just use choid to install newer updates in the future....seems allot less complicated! Thanks tho.I still may try emunand down the road if they make it easier to work with like the 3ds

Emunand on sd card works fine with out being corrupted, you will find fake sd cards corrupt as they write over space. My Sandisk 400GB flys, easy to backup emunand and sd card. If your using emunand would store on sd card (not hidden), have a different sd card for ofw (if using) My self I’m not using online in anyway so being on sd card is fine, runs as if system nand so if your using online hide it or use different sd card.

did you try Windows clone apps or *nix clone apps? I'm fairly confident that *nix 'dd' command or clonezilla would be able to successfully clone the hidden partition SD card to another card.

EDIT: Thaikhoa already answered 'dd' will work. Try the bootable USB image of clonezilla to clone your SD card if you don't have a PC with ubuntu etc. already on it.

EDIT 2: also be aware that there may be a bug with SX OS 2.6.1, OFW 7.0.1 and hidden emuNAND partitions - they won't boot if emuNAND is enabled. A few people had mentioned their new SD card installs with hidden partitions would ''black screen boot'' and only fully load SX OS when the emunand was disabled. But it did work when they created emuNAND as files on their FAT32 formatted SD cards.
