Emunand and what it would mean for the annoying update prompt

For those of us who mistakenly allowed our 3ds to go online for long enough to automatically download the update and now risk catastrophe every time we turn on our 3DS, how about this:
When gateway 2.0 comes out do you think we'll be able to wipe the non-emunand, (keeping all our eshop downloads on the updated emunand), and wipe our SD card as well before installing our emunand, effectively removing the annoying update prompt from the 4.5 side?
I don't know - Does this sound right? Any thoughts?
My apologies if anyone thinks that this doesn't deserve it's own topic - I just think that this is a big enough concern for enough people to want to know a real solution.

Edit: My one concern is: Where is the update stored? If it's on the SD card, we could easily just insert a blank one with the updated emunand with all our saved eshop games on it, but if it is on the system memory is there a way to safely erase it? Would all our eshop data remain intact on the emunand, or would the emunand no longer work?

The point of emuNAND is having a hacked up to date 3DS, why would you care about the original NAND?

Anyways, to answer your question: It is pretty obvious that, as long as the secret and encrypted ID of your backed up NAND matches your 3DS, you can do whatever change you want to your original NAND and the emulated one (except updating the original, of course).

That's kind of my point, really. As long as I have everything I want on the emuNAND, then I could wipe the 4.5 side and avoid screwing myself over.
I just thought this was an interesting perk for those of us with this problem.

I have the update downloaded on my system too, but is not as big of a problem as you people are making it appear to be.

I know that it's only a minor problem, but nonetheless there is a potential solution presented with the 2.0 update. So even though I wasn't crying about it before, I'll be glad to be able to get rid of the prompt so that I'm not going into surgery-mode every time I turn on my 3DS.

the only thing i worry about is if the emunand become corrupted on the SD card in any way you would lose your purchases from the eshop. This will make backing up your SD card with emunand very important. Im sure they have thought of this however

I don't see how couldn't we back up the files of the NAND after being stored on the SD, it's not like it will be an image file (at least they mentioned it will be used for the regular files too).

Couldn't you just redump your now empty 4.5 nand, then use the emuNAND to go onto the eshop to redownload all of your purchases, seeing as they would still be linked to your 3ds, and the nand is just a duplicate of your original.

There's no point on doing that, it's just waisted time, also there are other kind of saved data that can't be recovered. Just have a backup of everything and you'll be fine.

You eshop purchases are stored in a ticket (movable.sed) file within the Nand which would mean the 6.3 eumnand. unless they are somehow storing the file on physical http://www.3dbrew.org/wiki/Flash_Filesystem

I do this now swiching between my 4.5dump for gateway & 6.3 for online stuff. My purchases only show in the 6.3 dump with current movable.sed file in NAND

I'm only saying that it's better to have a backup of everything, for example, if you have a progress on your eShop games, you won't be able to recover those save files as far as I know, also everything on Mii Plaza is deleted.

And about those tickets, your purchases are tied to the console, not to whatever data you currently have on your NAN), of course to redownload your games, you will need to have it on the latest FW.

Edit: I got your point. Yes, your downloaded games won't show even if they are still stored on your SD if you rewrite the NAND with a backup where you never downloaded them.

Wouldn't they show up once you access the eshop though?

If I remember correctly, some guy managed to have duplicates of his downloaded games by doing a system transfer than restoring the NAND, but when he accesses the eshop the games went away. I imagine it would be the opposite here, access the eshop and you get the games.

No its physically store in the NAND file what you own. The guy that duped his Nand hence the movable.sed file.... backed up his nand on system A with eshop games and then did a system transfer to new 3ds system B. then took the NAND backup of system A flashed back to that previous state with his orginal movable.sed which is now on system B also. However if he goes into eshop on System A it will wipe off those duped games

Regardless of whether or not you think it would be a waist[sic] of time, I'm looking forward to finding out if it can be done because *I* think it would come in handy.
Also you would think that gamers would be familiar enough with having your tastes dismissed by others that this kind of belittling wouldn't show up around here... I guess not.

I would definitely like to get rid of that nag! It would be nice to lend my 3DS out without warning people of the terrible things I will do to them if they hit the update button.

Thanks for the remark, I didn't realised it. Do whatever is your desire, but formatting your NAND before backing it up is definitely pointless.

I totally agree with this. It seems a lot of people around here look forward to belittling people in order to boost their ego or prove their point. In my opinion, it's a very immature way to communicate, and only serves to remind people that we do truly have children (in age or personality) on this board. Kids will be kids.

Question if we use Emunand to go to the eshop do the games that we download using Emunand go to the real nand or only to Emunand ?
