The topic or topics have yet to be revealed, but given Musk's personal vendetta against the "woke midnight virus" and his formation of a super PAC in support of Republican candidates - it is expected to focus heavily on the culture war

This news comes at a time when Harris has been overtaking Trump in state and national polls, and largely taken over headlines as she revealed her pick for VP Governor Walz

That would have to be step one in testing any new terraforming technology regardless. If it can't be effective in an already-inhabitable atmosphere/environment, it's sure as hell not gonna be effective when starting from nothing.

It also goes without saying to some extent, but Musk is incapable of designing even any halfway decent recreational product, let alone anything vital to humanity's survival. He buys out companies with talented engineers, but when he tries to meddle with things himself, the result is the fucking Cybertruck.

If earth is hit by a large asteroid or some other catastrophe, being on a separate body with some level of self sufficiency is important

Also, launch pad to further space exploration - we aren't gonna colonize planets around alpha centauri if we can't even colonize mars

"Any time any place." That's what Trump was about with regards to debating.... until it was up against Kamala. Now he's too scared to do that because he's not up against another old man anymore. We're not saying it's a bad idea. We're saying it's unrealistic and unattainable with even our most advanced technology to come for decades. Right now there's better and more efficient means of solving existential threats, like asteroids as you said, that don't involve terraforming an entire celestial body.

Terraforming mars isn't coming any time soon, but the creation of space outposts there will be more practical than low earth orbit

Water and atmosphere need to come from earth, but mars has resources and it could one day become self sufficient even without terraforming
