Elden Ring now has an official gameplay reveal trailer and a release date

After a two-year-long wait since the game's initial reveal, today marks a milestone in the development of From Software's Elden Ring. The game finally received a gameplay trailer, giving excited fans the chance to have their first look at Elden Ring's gameplay, as well as its story elements, bosses, and overall visuals. As you may remember from the E3 2019 announcement, this project is a partnership between Dark Souls developer FromSoft and A Song of Ice and Fire writer George R.R. Martin. Not only was the gameplay properly shown, but Elden Ring also confirmed its release date, which is set for January 21nd, 2022.

I was hoping they scrapped the old engine and started again using the demon's souls engine after they went dark for 2 years. But it looks like they have just used the old engine. Also, as the game is coming to PS4 as well, they will be limited as to what they can do as then need to make it run on old gen and new gen. Looks like we will have to wait for their next game for a full next gen experience.

Be real difficult for them to use an engine they had 0 hand in developing. Demons Souls remake runs on Bluepoint's custom engine, From Soft had basically nothing to do with Demon's Souls Remake.

Yeah I was about to say the same. An interesting thing about it is that it's an engine running on top of FromSoft's original engine too, so I'm not sure how well it would work as a standalone.

So they grabbed DS3 engine, upgraded the lighting engine to (potentially) support RTX and hired "tha writer fram gaem of zrones" to resell us dark souls at a steep (don't quote me but be ready) 80 buckarios and then the upcoming DLCs...

I mean, I am excited and will potentially get it, thank you From Soft for the effort... but do not expect me to buy it at launch!

That's not how FromSoft operates, this isn't FIFA or Madden FFS. You might as well be trying to make the argument that Bloodborne and Sekiro are the same game.

Being cross-gen, I'm betting on $60 at launch across all platforms, but at worst it'll be $70 on next-gen consoles and $60 on PC.

That's fine, nobody's holding a gun to your head. Soulsborne games are some of the few that I do feel justify their launch pricing though, and consistently at that. The one exception being Dark Souls Remastered.

Bloodborne is DS3 capped to 30 fps and Sekiro fortunately had some physics updates, I fail to see how is any different from FIFA or Madden now that you mention.

Denying the obvious won´t take you to a moral highground or something.

To be honest, I'm not convinced that transferring Mid-Development Assets to a new Game Engine is altogether hard.

From experience, I've had an International AEC Firm's Staff transfer Assets to brand new Game Engine, that were promoting themselves for the Tender of being our VR Modules, with minimal pains albeit a learning curve.

The points there are :
  • My Staff work in Visualisation so their experience is unlike a Gaming Team with years in and transferring into another Game Engine.
  • From all the Game Engine Providers that approached me for the Sale, their main Marketing Message has always been Accessibility, with minimal Downtime, so I don't see how this is any different when selling to Game Developers.
As such, I'm not sure how much of this argument is spin and I do feel like the Visuals are comparably dated.
It would be nice if they could transfer to a newer Gaming Engine as I'm sure it would also raise their Sales, despite not meeting the 2022 deadline.

That comparison was just about the most absurdist thing I could think up on the spot, and you actually ran with it...whatever you're smoking is way too strong for you. Bloodborne and Sekiro have next to nothing in common except the engine itself, and a post as ridiculous as this one makes me suspect you haven't played either of them.

Denying the obvious won´t take you to a moral highground or something.
The hell does comparing different games from a given developer have to do with morality?

Steam exclusive?
On PC, most likely. Not because Valve offers third-party exclusivity deals (they don't), but just because Namco Bandai likes to stick with the most popular platform. They have barely any games on GOG and none on EGS I believe.

It's also coming to PS4/PS5 and XB1/Xbox Series of course.

I don't understand why people are going wild about this game. Sure, it looks impressive seeing as how it's made by the same devs who made Dark Souls and Bloodbourne, but it looks pretty generic to me.

Doesn't matter, tho. Still locked up to one store which is "anti-customer" move that no one boos as much as timed Epic exclusives. Doesn't matter whether they get paid by a storefront or not. Afterall it is exact same decision coming from same devs/publishers. In the end as a customer, I'm unable to get the game outside of Steam which in Epic case, I could have get the game $10 cheaper with a coupon. Plus devs/publishers gets financially secured and we know after a year same game is going to come Steam too. In Steam case you know it's perma exclusive almost all the time but thankfully this is going to be change in mid-long term.

Anyways, Just wanted to point out how immature reaction is to become a hatred of a company justifying it with "customer freedom of choice" when it's come to Epic or else but not Steam. Pretty sure they'll release it on Epic too. It's just because EGS is not fully open store yet due to the self-service publishing tools not ready but it is going to be released this year. In that case pretty much all major publishers will be there sooner or later including Namco Bandai since they also have Unreal Engine license with Epic. So no worries.

It absolutely matters. Valve is doing nothing to encourage third-party exclusivity on PC. Your problem in this case is with the way Namco Bandai operates.

Untrue, Steam provides the publisher with keys that can be sold elsewhere. So you'll probably end up seeing Elden Ring on GMG and Humble for $45 before it has even launched.

Pretty sure they'll release it on Epic too.
I wouldn't count on it. As I said earlier, I can't find ANY Namco Bandai published games on EGS, and that includes all the Dark Souls games. I faintly recall that Epic might've done something to piss off Namco Bandai previously, but I can't be sure of that.
