Those looking forward to the next entry into the Skate series will be able to try the game out for themselves soon, as EA has announced that the upcoming .skate will be releasing in early access in 2025. This will be the first Skate game in 15 years, following Skate 3 which released in 2010. It'll be a free to play game, with live service elements and microtransactions. More information about the early access release will be coming soon, following playtests for consoles and PC.

I was thinking they'll make this game online-only and there it is: F2P and Live Service.

These newer generations will eventually be unable to play games because of practices like these that make games unplayable (remember MAG on PS3? yeah can't play it).

I'm excited for sure, but why early access?

Just make Skate 4 already, or are they saying that they no longer have confidence in making a good Skate 4 and would just push any glitches/bugs as it's an early access beta?

The last part doesn't surprise me AT ALL.

This is 2024 EA, not 2010 EA where games were okayish without being bloated with microtransactions
Who would buy a skateboard videogame for full price in 2024?

I played that alpha build and it's good, they nailed the physics and controls to the point where Session and Skater XL couldn't
frankly whether it's live service or not doesn't make a difference to me, so long as I can skate around and have fun in the map
that's all I ever played these games for, and when it goes offline? Someone will be there to take it offline, that's already the state the alpha exists in.

Been loving the alpha tests so far, so to hear this, I'm ready. Hopefully we can discuss the game more publicly and make content/stream the game.

Didn't surprise me that you made such a post again. All you do is whine over and over again. And yet you felt the urge to make a comment....

There's two games they won't make F2P: FIFA and Madden

It's essentially the same game every year, but millions buy it and buy the additional content.
Yeah this is exactly why I end up playing older games, or insisting on a game being a regular paid game that doesn't have micro-transactions. Less chances for recycling a game and charging for new content when you aren't making a new one every year.

I played the play test, I had a LOT of fun. It isn't the same as playing Skate 2/3 but it was still fun. They shouldn't have made it a F2P live service, but it is still a valid game with a lot of love put into it.

I get the anger, but I bet both of my nuts almost none of the people above my comment actually tried the game.

Me, anyone who actually skates in real life that also play video games probably would. If it's not for you, it's not for you.

Don't be fooled, this isn't skate, this is skate.

Try the game first.

I've mostly been lurking on GBAtemp for years, but today feels like the day to say it, you're THE most irritating individual on this website. Always the worst takes, always the most brain-dead comments. Continue to hide behind your facade of trolling, you'll never find true happiness until you confront your vices.

I never want to spread hate rather than love, but you're the exception. I'd love to say exactly what's on my mind on how I feel about you, but I'll leave it at that.

Sad thing is in years they'll probably shut it down and make it unplayable. 😕 There should be a law against killing games and rather try to preserve them, but there's things much more important they need to take care of.
