They have great franchises, they have Mass Effect, Need for Speed, NHL, Burnout, Mirrors Edge, Dante's Inferno, Battlefield...

seriously, they could easily make a dent in the digital market.

The problem is that they only sell EA games. Considering any game here is available on Steam why should I buy from the EA store? Or for that matter, buy it on Impulse/Gamestop. If they don't at the very least provide for auto-patching of PC games, I'd say their platform is a loss from the start. You have to be BETTER than the encumbent in some way or you're going to be hard pressed to get people to migrate away.

Nah valve is perfectly capable of publishing their own games (and they do)
They just occasionally distribute through EA
