EA Launching Service to Rival Steam

There's absolutely no reason why this should fail. It should succeed. Maybe not take top spot as digital store, but get up there. If other sites are still up and running against steam this can work. I'd love to see this succeed.

They have great franchises, they have Mass Effect, Need for Speed, NHL, Burnout, Mirrors Edge, Dante's Inferno, Battlefield...

seriously, they could easily make a dent in the digital market.

The problem is that they only sell EA games. Considering any game here is available on Steam why should I buy from the EA store? Or for that matter, buy it on Impulse/Gamestop. If they don't at the very least provide for auto-patching of PC games, I'd say their platform is a loss from the start. You have to be BETTER than the encumbent in some way or you're going to be hard pressed to get people to migrate away.

Um, no thanks. I prefer to play my of games via a cloud. I love using OnLive. The service just needs some more popular multi-platform games.

Nah valve is perfectly capable of publishing their own games (and they do)
They just occasionally distribute through EA

It's like the iPod vs the Zune essentially. The iPod came out first and kinda got an edge on the market. It will essentially be the same.
