I can burn dvd+rw's just fine. I recently got some -R discs tonight to burn some games finally, but my drive doesn't recognize the disc. IMG Burn and Nero can't find information. Is it possible to burn -R in a +RW drive? I thought +RW can do it all

really dont think its gonna work but its a question of trying
but is your driver old? you might solve the drivers problem by updating its firmware

im sorry but which drive do you speak of the one in the wii or the one in your computer..... (the one that does not recognize the disc)

if it's the computer not all drives a multi recorders....
if its a dvd+r drive its not gonna work with dvd-r
unless like i said it is a multi recorder....
some people on the net have had success cross flashing drives with different/hacked firmware to make it work but i dont do that sort of thing...

if its the wii try diffrent media or go back to =r some drives are finicky....

latest firmware for my drive is from 2007. It works good for +RW. I guess I can try to burn it on +RW dvd's some more. Any tips on getting the best results for +RW? I've heard of ppl using them for Wii backups using gamma.

You should be find as long as you can set book-type to dvd-rom...

What model Philips drive do you have? 2007 doesn't seem like too long ago to not support both +R and -R, but who knows. and +RW only? that could get expensive and if that's the case you could save money over the long run with a new burner. Can find some good ones $20-30 shipped.

The drive is fairly old, maybe 2001. The firmware for it is from 2007 and it has worked very well. I have tried setting book-type to DVD-ROM, but I'm thinking maybe it was because the game couldn't fit on disc. Hopefully this WiiScrubber app will do the trick

If you're sure that's right... then it's time to upgrade. That drive is worthless. From what I can tell that is the OLDEST drive Philips has ever made. It's the last drive on this list. I googled this drive, it's an OEM version of Philips DVDRW208. Which can only do (not including CDR) DVD+RW @ 2.4x.
