Hey I am completely new to this, but am competent enough to learn so bare with me. I recently purchased an xbox 360 for about $30.00, only problem with it is the DVD drive. Price is great so I can't complain about that. The dvd drive would not open when you pressed the open disc tray button, so I figured I would just order a one online and swap it out. I purchased a new DVD Drive, and was told that if I remove the board from the old dvd drive and replace the new board with the old one, that the DVD Drive would work fine, and the key would still match that of my xbox 360. I did this, and the tray of the new dvd drive wouldn't open either. So I swapped the boards back, and tried to open the disc tray and it works. This leads me to beleive that there is nothing wrong with either dvd drive itself, the old board is just fried. But it is my understanding that I will need to flash the dvd drive for it to read games, and to do so I need to dump the key from my old board and flash into the new one. But it is fried (Physically looking at it, it looks like some of the glue or solder or something has melted all over the board from the console overheating). So am I SOL? Is there no way to make it work without having access to the old key?
