Turn the DS into a wireless Gamepad

Bong has developed a homebrew application that turns the DS into a wireless gamepad.

Seems cool. Does it let you use the non-touchscreen buttons of your DS as well?

Good idea! I can't wait until full implementation and Windows (Vista) compatibility are going; makes playing classic ROMs so much easier. Plus DMC3 on keyboard is a killer.

cool idea. nintendo should pick up on it and allow you to play games on the wii with the ds, so that you don't have to buy a classic controller

If you have to use the touchscreen, then it's completely WORTHLESS.

I've tried to use software buttons on my Axim X50v (which has a better screen than the DS) and it is completely futile.

Also, if it doesn't work on Windows, then what's the point? The developer says they don't use windows... so will they end up even coding for it?

It sounds like coding for the sake of coding, not for usefulness.

I don't think it would make a lot of sense to have it only function with the touch screen. You can only activate the touch screen at one point at a time. Meaning, if all the buttons were on the touch screen, then you could only press one button at a time.

I certainly hope this takes advantage of the actual DS buttons. I got excited with this, but I hope it remains as I originally thought it was.

Where did you get the idea that you need to use the touch screen as the game pad, the touch screen looks nothing like the game pad, it just lets you select what player number you are, so you can use two ds's on the same computer(running the same server) as gamepads.

This kind of application already exists. It's called DS2Key and works exactly like this one.

Yes, DS2Key is great. Doubles as a cool wardriver as well.

yeah, but wardriving is illegal in the US i think... since you aren't a user typically allowed on those networks, etc.

Let's clear things up about your awesome offtopic [IMG]
Wardriving as in sending probes and scanning around is totally legal! That one is in the dswifilib example app.

Wardriving as in scanning and connecting might be illegal but who gives a fuck when you connect, say "hi, I just jacked this dumbass with open network" to your favorite forum and go along [IMG]

And I really think it is pretty cool to build up on existing app, when you need to make the stuff working, not looking.

    Hi everyone,
I'm the author of this DSPad and i'd like to give you more informations.

First, I know ds2key but it is a fork of the dswifi lib test program. I don't say it's crap, maybe it works very well but i cant test it as i had no windows on my box.
I thought it would be fun to write mine from scratch and i just did it [IMG]

Of course, it use the real buttons and dpad, not the touchscreen. Touchscreen is only there to browse menu (btw, i plan to use it as an analog stick...)

At the moment, i'm working on the client -> expect a new release soon.
If you want sources (i think server sources are more interesting) feel free to pm me [IMG] but as it use some linux modules, i don't know if it would run on osx... maybe you can make your own osx server [IMG]

PS: I have no devblog/site, sorry.

    Edit:
@Louse76: It's not for the sake of coding [IMG] and i'd like do do a windows server but it's not my priority at the moment [IMG]
