This converter doesn't work either?

I have followed the read me and set up every thing, however this is what my computer says:

Movie_Guide.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

Error signature:
AppName: movie_guide.exe AppVer: 1.20.0.0 ModName: musicde.dll
ModVer: 9.0.0.0 Offset: 00001d0d

Did you use the DSM player or moonshell? Does it have a DLDI patch if you use the former?

I used the media program on m3 real to open the file, sorry i dont know what a dldi patch is...

please enlighten me on this

there are two DSM formats. so everything is more confusing.

One is...GBALPHA's Crystal Engine Multimedia Player. Medium file size, medium quality

And the other is Infantile Paralysiser's DSMPlay. Big file size, good quality

They both make DSM files but they are not compatable with eachother. Make sure you are using the correct converter for the player..

The one that is comes with the M3 Real package is the Crystal Engine Multimedia Player. You have to use the converter that came in the CD or the website. http://www.handheldsources.com/G6DS/Download.html

To play movies that you converted with DSMPlay you have to have the program DSMPlay on your card. Heres the link. http://www.tehskeen.com/modules.php?name=D...article&id=1591.

also some converters have problems converting certain files (like Xvid and DivX) but if you convert to mpeg1 or mpeg2 first, then it wont give you a problem.

I could be wrong someone correct if I am

This might be a bit of a silly question but are you sure the blockiness you describe isn't just mpeg artifacts?

If you didn't set a high bitrate you'll get them, I encode mine at 256/128 and still it's blocky as hell, might try the other encoder mentioned here myself -.-

And I've just noticed you support the scum, meh -.-

Ditto that. I think there is a program on the mini CD called "GBAlpha NDSMovie Converter Beta 2" that encodes in DSM. See a pretty good review of the M3DS Real here www.iso420.org/nds/m3real/index.html. Almost at the bottom of the review are some screen shots of this program. I sent an email to '[email protected]' asking what progam I should use to encode movies in DSM and got this reply:

Hi ,
PC video Converter (support Movie Player)
You may download it here .
http://www.handheldsources.com/M3DS/Download_M3DSR.html
M3 ream (sic)

This link does not give you what it says. I replied to the email on 11/28 and said as much but have yet to hear back (doubt I will). I think the program is available here www.ndsfilm.com/ndsfilm/Soften_Class.asp?ClassID=37 but I think you have to use a download manager called FlashGet. I haven't got it to work yet.

I could use DPG and watch them with Moonshell but I'd rather use the Crystal Engine Multimedia Player (CEMP) that is native to the M3DS Real (which doesn't seem to support DPG at least not encoded with dpgtools). DSMtools makes very nice looking video that is playable in Dsmplay (not CEMP) but the files are huge i.e. a 651MB MP4 or AVI converts to a 4,537MB DSM. Try to fit that on your Micro SDHC!

I am having a hard time trying to track this convertor software down as well.
According to a reveiw http://www.iso420.org/nds/m3real/index.html there are two compatible convertor programs that make the same DSM file for the built in media player on the M3real. This is aprt from the DSMplay format which is different.

Crystal Engine Movie Converter
The Crystal Engine Movie Converter is used to convert various formats of movies into the Crystal Engine format to be played using your M3DS Real. The converter is easy to use and supports a wide variety of input formats including rm (Real Media), vob (DVD), avi (Plain/XVID/DIVX), mov, wmv and asf. You can convert the media using three video quality settings which are High Compression Mode, Standard Mode and High Quality Mode. Additionally, you can select which console you'll be playing your videos back on, but for the sake of the M3DS Real you'll be sticking with the NDS. Lastly, you can change the targeted file size, but to be safe I'd leave it at 512MB.

GBAlpha's DSM Movie Converter
This movie converter is used to encode your movies into the DSM format and is more robust and reliable then the Crystal Engine one. I would use this format over the Crystal Engine as it's superior in video, playback and sound quality. You have a lot of control over the conversion process including selecting the frame rate, video bit rate, audio bit rate, audio sample rate, encoding mode, colors, subtitles and you can even make an introduction image or video.

The reveiw says GBAlpha's DSM Movie Converter is the better one but where can I download it? Anyone?
It is really good that some people are trying to help but seem to be just pointing to facts the are floating around the place and not on something they actually have tried. Could someone help us out please.

Actually I think the first converter "Crystal Engine Movie Converter" creates the .gbm and .gbs files mentioned by Manufn619.

At least thats what it gives me. I think this is an older program that came with a previous M3 or G6 product (this is just a guess). The program we really want is the Second one "GBAlpha's DSM Movie Converter". I wonder if someone got this program with thier M3DS Real? Apparently Brakken, the person who wrote the fine review mentioned above got a mini CD. I wonder why we didn't get it. He says in a discussion about the review that he included all files in a download available on a link on the review. Sadly the GBAlpha DSM Movie Converter is missing from the download. I'm trying to ask him about it but his discussion group does not seem to approve new users as fast as GBAtemp.

True and it's not very convenient but if you run the Chinese version and reference the picture you linked to above, then you can make it work. Maybe they are working on a translation?
