DSiWare Delisted, Netflix Gone From 3DS And Wii U, Switch Pro Leaked & more - Tempcast #21

podcast_art_banner_smol-png.222446

2021 starts with a bang for Nintendo, beginning the year with a mass purge of DSiWare titles in the eShop. In this week's episode, we discuss what exactly might've led to this, and whether or not it was Nintendo's decision after all. Seemingly in retaliation, Netflix has announced that they will be discontinuing its services on the 3DS and Wii U systems. A new datamine of the Switch firmware has been found to have references two unknown Switch models, or so SciresM from Atmosphere claims, we debate heavily on whether or not a Switch 'Pro' might have an OLED screen. Finally, we discuss some more minor topics that deserved a spot this week - such as Microsoft attempting to purchase Nintendo in the early 2000s, the list of 'free' games going up this month on various services, and Lenovo's new handheld gaming 'device'.

Remember when they discontinued the Wii and DS online services by surprise? With no warning whatsoever?

Not surprised Nintendo did something like this again.

At least this time is with stuff that's over ten years old.

Not like you know, that time they screwed people playing Pokemon Black and White 2 that was released just two years before the online services went down.

Oh wait they did the exact same thing with the Pokemon Sun and Moon remakes on the 3DS!

Heck you only had a YEAR to play Ultra Sun and Moon online!

A year!

That was GameSpy's doing, not Nintendo's (but Nintendo probably could've offered a workaround if they really wanted to)

It doesn't matter if there is a switch pro, like the new 3ds only had like 3 exclusive games so....Meh and probably the new switch can't run cfw
Might be why they're supposedly making this with the same mariko chip.

Maybe but they run well enough on the standard switch so don't expect a lot of improvement and nintendo console updates are not like playstation so... Nah.

I know BOTW is getting old, and BOTW 2 is supposedly coming out eventually, but if the 'Switch Pro' can make Korok Forest run stutter free, I'll be happy. It's painful walking through there on a standard Switch.

No, I don't. Because that did NOT happen. At least as far as the Wii is concerned. Nice attempt at Nintendo-hating revisionist history.

Xenoblades being one of those games. And note all the New 3DS 60 FPS cheat codes available to make hundreds of existing games run better than they ever have before. It is also a lot easier now than it was then to make and make available updates to existing Switch games, plus a lot of games already take advantage of variable resolution, making a 4K Switch something to look forward to.

Not to mention the fact that the DSi games have since been relisted.

An OLED Switch seems like it'd eat away at the battery too much to be viable imo. The Vita did it but it's revision took it away greatly improving the battery. Granted the Vita is pretty old now, maybe the technology is more efficient.

Username's root is "Scire's M", but ' isn't a usable username character in most places.

Scire is pronounced with "sc" as just like "s", the i like "eye", ends in "er".

The console is Mariko, the Realtek UHD chip is used in concert, it's not the cpu for the console.

The OLED thing is speculation -- it's one of OLED, innolux mini-led, or sharp igzo tech. CTCaer is really confident it's OLED, hexkyz/I are less confident.

More/better details here in this thread chain:
