Hardware DSi XL or N3DS XL for DS Games

Hello,

I am currently playing some old DS Games on my N3DS XL and remembered some old discussion that the 3ds is horrible for DS Games (like this one: https://gbatemp.net/threads/people-just-get-a-ds-lite.350458/)

Is that still true for the N3DS XL? I would imagine that the bigger, IPS Screen would be superior in color and contrast.
I could even activate pixel perfect resolution with select+start (which is pretty small :o)

Would it be worth to get a cheap DSi XL on ebay and enjoy the DS Games on a real DSi?
The scaling might be better. Since im used to the big screen of the XL, I probably wouldn't get the regular DSi.

I think much of the original controversy was over how the 3DS upscaled the DS game and that caused details to become blurry. IPS didn't really have a hand in that and while it does give you better colour and contrast, it has no effect on the upscale blur. If that didn't bother you, then there's probably no point in getting a DSi/XL.

DSi XL for me would be the choice. I know it sucks to bring two console with you, but when I play my DQ9, I prefer the DSi XL, wich are cheap around here 60$ CND.

The quality of a DS game is always going to be better on a DS/DSi than on a 3DS/N3DS for the reasons you're already aware of. If you want the best quality for your DS games, you should get that DSi XL if it's worth the price.

However, I play DS games on my 3DS from time to time, and I don't personally think it's bad enough on the 3DS to buy a new console.

The DSi XL has dual IPS screens (or some technology with good viewing angles), with the N3DS XL it's a lottery. You can play games at full size without upscaling and blurriness as well. The N3DS Xl's buttons feel better but it isn't much of a big deal.
