Hi there!

I replace the touch screen (digitaliser layer) of my DSi XL but something goes wrong.
The system boot but the bottom screen is white with black borders. See picture.
The black borders are getting bigger with time passing.

This second hand DSi XL was working before replacing the touch screen. When opened I see some water damage inside.

Any advices?

Thanks in advance!

Did you adjust or damage the Potentiometers when reassembling?

Guessing you have already tried disconnecting and reconnecting the bottom screen?
Thanks for your help.
I already disconnect and reconnect the cables of the bottom screen.

I’m no professional, but it looks the LCD part of the screen seems to be busted during the process
Hi, Yes maybe I damage the LCD screen when I put it back.

Water Damage can be a tough one as corrosion can cause a lot of issues. I don't know where the water damage is, but I would clean that bottom screen connector with IPA and a toothbrush as best as you can. Also, check the contacts on the LCD ribbon cable (the big one) to see how the contacts look.

Then, thoroughly inspect the area to see if any component has signs of corrosion. I can only imagine the severity of the water damage, but I've had motherboards where components were falling off the board due to the corrosion.

Also check around the bottom screen itself. The metal casing around the screens rust. Sometimes, only surface rust can be lightly sanded off, but if the water got in and damaged the LCD.

Basically, water damage throws conventional troubleshooting out the window as we are no longer dealing with a "known good" console.

I know you said it worked before, but it would seem something went wrong. Maybe you jostled something out of place when unplugging the ribbon cable, maybe knocked away some corrosion that is now interfering, maybe maybe maybe.... (I could go on).

So it can be a potentiometer problem. Can you tell me where they are?

Right in the battery bay there are two golden "screws". Referencing this image, they are directly to the right of the 1-800 number for Nintendo Customer Service.

The top "screw" is the pot for the top screen and the bottom "screw" is for the bottom screen.
