im going to start collecting DSiWare, i bought some on 3DS but now im wondering if i should have them on a DSi XL instead. i CAN transfer individual software From Dsi to a 3DS in the future, but it will ERASE ALL SAVES. i only have one shot at this.

i need to make the decision beforehand because,
1. you cannot transfer from DSi to another DSi
2. you cannot transfer from 3DS back to DSi
3. you cannot transfer from 3DS to 3DS
(5 transfer limit, no Custom transfer, erases previous software)

DSi ware is locked to the one DSi, so when my DSi XL eventually wears out ill have to transfer it to a 3DS anyway, which will erase all saves.

- DSi XL screen is sharper and crisper
- 3DS blur's/smooths the DS image but holding select lets you display it in a sharper but DS Lite sized image.
- 3DS has Analog slider, a godsend for RPGs and racing.

They wear out? My GBA SP is still 100%, and gets used almost every day. Heck I still have a Gameboy Pocket that works fine. I just never use it because when I want to play a GB/GBC game (which isn't often) it's better emulated on my DSi XL.

I'm going to have to break this down with quotes because I can't really follow you here.

Yes it will erase your saves, but it's a problem you'll have to deal with if you ever transfer your DSi to 3DS. It's not that great a loss anyway, as DSiWare is usually very short.

i need to make the decision beforehand because,
1. you cannot transfer from DSi to another DSi
2. you cannot transfer from 3DS back to DSi
3. you cannot transfer from 3DS to 3DS

You CAN transfer 3DS to 3DS, and that includes DSiWare. You have 5 Transfers to use, so you might as well use one. I assume by "Custom Transfer", you mean selecting what you want to transfer instead of anything? How should that affect you anyway, don't you want all your stuff on one system? I don't think if you transfer DSi titles to your 3DS that the 3DS system gets erased, so you shouldn't have any problems there.

The DSi and DS Lite have the same resolution, so when you use the native resolution mode on the 3DS, it will appear small either way, if you get a 3DS XL, you can avoid this problem, as the pixels are bigger, leaving an approximately DSi-sized screen.

One thing that just occurred to me.... The sound on the 2600 sucked less back then the harsh sound we hear now is from infinitely better speakers we have now, back when the 2600 was new speakers produced a almost muffled sound, like CRTs made old graphics look slightly better.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I wonder if I could recommend that to some emulation devs that perhaps the sound could use some smoothing out to simulate those old TVs
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I think a few of the early systems could benefit from that, at least up to the 8 bit generation, by the 16 bit generation I think TVs had gotten a lot better in almost every way
