"With the Japanese market seeing the release of Nintendo's new DSi handheld later on this year, what could be stopping Nintendo from bringing the device over to North America? Localizing all of the cool software that's available on the thing? Sure, that takes time, but not that much time. So, what is it? The incredible popularity of the DS Lite, says Reggie!

The DS Lite is on track to sell 22% more units than it did last year, says Reggie. Because of the incredible demand, we won't get the DSi until "well into calendar year 2009" Our suggestion? Get ready to import!"

Is it really worth it to import it? I don't plan on it.

I'm probably gonna get it, but there's no way I'm importing it. I'm only getting it because I have like 70 bucks store credit at GameStop.

I wouldn't import it, the firmware will probably not support english like the DS/Lite does.
I mean come on, downloadable content, that'll be region based like the wii.

You think the games will be locked? How? The cart doesn't say where its from.

DS carts have a country code in the header and I'd hazard a guess that downloadable content will be country signed as well.

The current DS doesn't check for it, and every Nintendo handheld to date has been region free.
Well, I'm not sure about the Pokemon Mini.

No I know, it's just that playallday implied that there were no country codes stored in the cart. I don't see Nintendo region locking the games myself, just the downloadable content.

I don't really like the move. Makes Nintendo look really greedy. I would very much NOA just not touch the subject. They're pretty much saying they want to take advantage of buyers who don't know about the DSI which is crappy.

Importing it will be kinda of useless since you probably won't be able to use the japanese store from here.. [IMG]

Yeah, thats one of the reasons why I'm having second thoughts on importing. I won't be able to access the store here in US so there would be no point in it. Plus, I'll have to buy it with my own money probably and I don't have the money on me currently. The sucky part is that North America won't get it till supposedly "late in 2009".

It's been confirmed that Europe's getting it Spring 09, so America will probably be somewhere around then (most likely a little bit sooner if Nintendo sticks to their habits).

Isn't there already a region locked group of games and a DS to go with that region? iQue or something like that?

Ahh, if Nintendo could take out their heads from their asses and put WPA and MP3 support, even as a downloadable software, it would make the DSi much better.

Reggie has confirmed that the DSi will not be available in the NA until at LEAST after April. So we got at least a half a year to go.
