    well in japan the DSi comes in 3 other colors including...
    Lime-Green
    Blue
    Pink

    I got a green one and it works great. So i say get one from japan.

    if you have a japanese dsi you can only access the japanese nintendo shop channel, so download only japanese games, and your dsi only has japanese language options.
    so if you don't mind having only japanese stuff on it than it's probably worth a buy cause you get stuff much earlier. the european dsi shop channel only has about 6 games plus web browser on it :/
    but you'd need japanese points if you want to buy stuff on it, so consider that!

    There are two downsides:

    You have to use the Japanese DSi Shop, and games there are only in Japanese
    You will have to have the DSi in Japanese, because you cannot change the language.

    So why bother getting on in Japan? Thats just silly.

    I think not, read the other answers;
    -different colours
    -dsi shop items much earlier

    So it isn't silly, it's a choice

    No? It is still silly. Why bother playing games if you cannot understand them.
    AND you can buy DSi replacement cases that look exactly like the JAP DSi ones.

    If you don't mind the Japanese, then go ahead.
