the launching and closing skinapps seems a little flaky, was having problems closing them, would just freeze

if you set the old skin as the default, and want to change it, hold the B button while it's loading, and it should go back to the default skin. That's what they say somewhere anyways, haven't tried it though

Just for the record, I've experienced only two incompatibility problems with my DS-x: Mario & Luigi RPG & Animal Crossing. AC I could care less about as I own the game, Mario & Luigi however I have been interested in trying.

Wait, by Mario & Luigi RPG do you mean Partners in Time? I just played that one from start to finish without a problem

Maybe they should freeze this shitoverloaded skinning engine of them for a second and get to fix stuff like the save game problems and such. What's this skin apps do more anyway then a homebrew program can? And how hard can it be to allow M3 booting if all other cheap solutions can do it?
A well, perhaps we see this fixed next year. |-)

Can we have a screenshot from this new GUI anyway? Wanna know how sexy it really is.

I don't think DS-X is going to get a 10 on a review as long as they keep the prize as high as it is. Lower it (AT LEAST by 50%) and the chances of getting a 10 might increase.

But ofcourse they will make it less then half the price, why wouldn't they?

Think man, expensive shit costs more money, do you think they really would lower the price and get less money just to get a fuckin number changed on an old review from some site?
all errors are fixed as i can see. does anybody know about castlevania por. will gbatemp give the ds-xtreme a 10 now?

Hmm no?
QUOTE(nloding @ Jan 27 2007, 03:05 AM)What's up with the download play?

I still have the original firmware. Any word on how this affects ROMs?? Animal Crossing is back, but was anything else left out this time around? Just like last time? I want to be sure before I update and potentially screw myself.
The download play compatibility has just not changed as far as I see, which is not such a problem to call "Download play has NOT been fixed at all", cause it still has the best download play compatibility of all then. Just Yoshi, Big Brain Academy and Snowboard Kids have not been fixed yet...

And well, the ROM playing compatibility is back to 100% as far as I see it, the save problems have just not been solved, but I believe they were in the first version as well (or even worse).

Yes, I was referring to Partners in time and how I experienced incompatibility with it on fw version 1.0.1 - I'm sorry I was not clear enough there. As all know, it works on 1.0.2 & 1.1.0.

What I can't understand is why they're including the "qkin" fix into this update. There are several posts from moderators on the DS-X forum saying that applying "qkin" fix on non-"qkin" units is not recommended. And now this. I'm not going to update while that qkin fix is included.

I hope this update improves compatibility beyond AC being playable again (I think this fix doesn't justify 2 months or more of coding). So how about Metroid Pinball menu slowdowns, Adv Wars graphics glitches while saving and Castlevania POR random crashes? Could anybody confirm they're gone?

Also, the new bells and whistles skin and skinapps doesn't justify a coding team working full-time for more than two months. They're nice to have features but first task is to fix compat. annoyances to the max.

I'm amazed you could even get a skin app to boot. They all crash the moment I select Launch.

I'll go ahead and check my g-defuser systems Castlevania - Portrait of Ruin out now.

UPDATE: Castlevania still seems to have all of it's problems. Tested by constantly using warp points; I got the most "reliable" crashes on the warp room map. This time was no different. After warping 3 times the game crashed.
That's strange. I loaded up my backed up save game (1000% map discovered), and I too checked out the usual suspects for freezing. I sat in the various warp points changing targets for quite awhile. I also went in and out of the item menus and such. Not a single freeze here. Did you load a former save game or did you start a new one?

They just said it's useless, they didn't say it was not recommended.

The graphical/sound glitches that occur when saving are still there.

I've tested PW:AA2 and Dawn of Sorrow - still getting graphical glitches.

They did fix the LED bug, and the DS-X now works as a passme for my EZ4.

I haven't had any crashes on the calc, but some of the operations took 10 seconds.

Used the same save file I used to play through the game. Can't really complain though, it's not like they said it was fixed or anything.

They just said it's useless, they didn't say it was not recommended.

DS-X Guru posted this a couple of weeks ago in relation to the beta "qkin" fix

http://forums.ds-xtreme.com/showpost.php?p...43&postcount=21
"Well,

If your unit is fine, you do not require to apply the Update (QKIN Fix).
Since the QKIN Fix is still a public beta I would not recommend doing so yet.

We could find out about a problem later on with the beta and you would be affected while you now have a perfectly fine unit. Thus, wait on a stable release when updating."

Regarding the latest firmware/hardware update to 1.1.0/1.0.1, he says

http://forums.ds-xtreme.com/showpost.php?p=27931&postcount=6
"The QKIN Fix has been worked on since the beta and it is stable now and tested on many non-qkin affected units without issues

So as it is stable, and did improve the hardware usage we did include it

Don't worry, your unit won't get issues."

However I can't find a very recent post about a guy having updated his non-qkin DS-X using latest "qkin"-only fix (not the latest firmware update on this thread) and screwing it where Rabid1 answers something like: "if your DS-X wasn't affected by qkin, you shouldn't have applied the qkin fix".

It's just I think they should have released two firmware updates at least for this time.
