The dipstar file has to be in slot 2.
If you have an old GBA flashcart that you can put the dipstar file on without a loader menu you could probably use that and the DS-X, but not the DS-X by itself.
EDIT: On second thought it probably wouldn't work even with the GBA cart. I think the program you have to use to "dip" the roms only works with the M3/G6.
