A retro themed week for the DS. An old fashioned Dungeon crawler & two arcade classics.

The Dreamcast game was very good! The Amiga & NES ones were also enjoyable but this one just looks like a bad idea.

Players join Dick Dastardly and the gang, racing across a variety of action-packed and colourful cross-country rallies from the TV series. Racers watch out for traps and speed ahead to win the ultimate title of World's Wackiest Racer! Wacky Widgets are collected during the race to gain "Wacky Powers," as well as a character's super-special "Way Out Wacky" power, which can be used to gain the upper hand over sly opponents.

Looking at the trailer it looks a bit cheap.

Region North America Genre: Dungeon Crawler
Developer: Atlus Co. Publisher: Atlus Co.

Here is a sequel to a game that some love and others hate. Now I like these old style crawlers, but the first one I fount to be a bit monotonous & stale, couldn't enjoy it as much as I wanted to or tried. Still will give this one a try to see if there are any improvements in story and level design.

In the Grand Duchy of High Lagaard, it is said that the Duke is descended from inhabitants of a castle in the sky. When an unforeseen crisis befalls the nation, it is decreed that the first explorer to retrieve the Grail of Kings from that mythical floating palace will be rewarded with wealth and fame beyond imagining. Enter the central city of Lagaard and begin your journey to the clouds!

Though it looks "more of the same" it does have some notable differences. There are three new classes: gunner, war magnus, and beast. And the Nine from the last game are available from the start. Each class will have a "Force Skill" and works the in the same way as the boost meter, this time it is a class-specific special attack attached to it. Classes now have more upgrading options in the skill tree as well, with specific abilities now teaming with full stat upgrades no matter which class you are. Also the mapping system has been improved with new symbols to map maps more detailed & accurate.

The other Space Invader DS game was a bit meh to be honest, but this game is awesome.

A "cool" and "extreme" (according to the game makers) version of the classic space shooter. Blast the aliens before they reach the bottom of the screen and attack your firing base. This "Extreme" entry in the series features wild new lighting and graphic effects to give the game a trippy look.

The Japanese version has been dumped and this is an awesome game and a lot has been done to it to make sure that it isn't just another boring Space Invaders game. That version allowed you to plug in a paddle which is said to make it a lot better but would the US version allow you to use it? I hoper so but the Arkanoid DS demo doesn't.

Another classic game made for the DS and done well too. Not much to say about this, hit bricks with the ball and win. There are all new levels for this version, including some fancy Space Invaders ones. The Japanese release was extremely good and I recommend this to any retro gamer out there.

In Japan it came with the nice little paddle which should improve the game but the US demo won't let you use it so maybe its be disabled. Maybe someone could hack it.

Ubisoft's turn to cash in on the "rock" music game.

Imagine Rock Star allows players to create a rock band and select who plays the drums, guitar, bass, and piano. Each instrument has its own unique control using the Nintendo DS stylus. Players have the ability to customize the look of each band mate in order to become the most stylish rockers. Players can wirelessly jam with up to four of their friends, perform in concerts, and earn money as the band works its way up the charts to the No. 1 spot to land its dream recording contract.

I'm guessing "Rock" will be the sort of watered down Ashlee Simpson, Kelly Clarkson etc crap. Well it can't be worse than Imagine Babies, Figure Skating or Imagine Making Lots Of Monies With Really Bad Gamez.

An instalment in the long running Japanese series, Spectral Force Genesis is a character-driven strategy series that takes place in the fantasy world of Neverland, where humans and beasts reside together. In the new instalment, the world is split into 40 countries, and its your goal to pick one and conquer the others.

The game's battle system is real time, pitting three ally generals against three enemy generals, each general commanding an army of troops. The generals appear on the bottom screen, and to control them, you draw their paths directly with the stylus. Outside of battle, you have to concern yourself with diplomatic issues and building up your armies. You also have to build up the defences around your kingdom. The strength of your kingdom internally is just as important as your strength on the battle field.

It looks good, I hope it comes outs over here.

Dear Nintendo, F-Zero, New Super Mario Land, Earthbound, Hercules, Punch Out, Smash Bros, Kirby Canvas sequel, ExciteBike, Wario Land, Zelda Four Swords, 2D Metroid, Donkey Kong, Kid Icarus, Proper Star Fox, Pikmin, Doshin the Giant, Pilotwings & an English version of Legend of Stafy would all be very welcome on our DS...this isn't but then I guess that they would cost money to develop unlike this "guide".

So what is it? A cookery book with recipes. Access hundreds of recipes from all over the world and cook them to perfection by following simple step-by-step guides. Search for recipes based on how long they take to cook, key ingredient, ease of preparation, country of origin and much more! Watch instructional videos to learn advanced food preparation techniques and use the multitude of built-in features to help make the cooking process easier at every stage. Based on the Japanese title Shaberu! DS Oryôri Navi.

Personally I'm gonna stick with books.

The game creates customized coaching sessions based on skill level and includes a pedometer (no paedo jokes please) which plugs into the GBA slot. Other game features include an Input Reward System, where you log your progress on a daily or weekly basis, and a personal profile creator that helps you track your progress.

It also uses the mic so when you do push ups it records when you call out. As well as this there will be mini games, tips and quizzes.

So could be helpful I guess for some people and it does sound like there has been some thought put into it.

Not into baseball but I enjoyed the first game on the Gamecube. This time around there is an entirely new game engine and of course it'll have motion control and Nintendo promises that it'll be even better than the Baseball game in Wii Sports.

There are three control methods: Wii Remote by itself, Wii Remote and the Nunchuck, and the Wii Remote held sideways. At the moment there are nine stadiums (Mario Stadium, Peach Rink *snigger*, Wario Fair, Yoshi Park, DK Jungle, Bowser's Castle, Daisy Gardens, Luigi's Mansion & Toy Field) and there will be many many characters (to list will take ages but there are over 60) plus the option to play with your own Mii's. Also items can be thrown at fielders to attempt to keep them from catching the ball.

That is all I know. Is there online? Well there is no logo on the boxart so maybe not but it would be stupid not to have it on.

This will be called Mario Super Sluggers in the US though no date has been confirmed.

The fifth game in the series and the first Alone in the Dark: The New Nightmare.

Taking inspiration from the presentation style and structure of a number of acclaimed and globally popular TV action dramas, Alone in the Dark is split into a number of distinct episodes in a season-style format. With approximately 30-40 minutes of gameplay comprising each episode, the structure of Alone in the Dark is adapted for an audience familiar with the hard-hitting bite-size delivery of contemporary TV dramas, offering easy accessibility whether the player has hours to devote or only wants a quick TV-style fix.

To be honest it doesn't really sound or look like a game in the AitD series and hand on previews say its a lot more linear, easy and with less puzzles than in previous games. So Atari are just using the name and a horror theme to sell this. Still if you see it as an all new game then this could be worth looking out for.

Top Spin 3 includes more than 25 of the world's top tennis superstars including Roger Federer, Andy Roddick, Maria Sharapova, James Blake, and many others. With all-new, action-packed features including signature player animations and expressions, weather changes, situation-specific behaviours, along with revamped audio with enhanced crowd reaction.

Apparently it has a high learning curve meaning casual gamers will probably give up on this early on. You can use motion controls or just straight forward buttons and a stick.

Spectral Force Genesis looks especially kick-ass. I really hope it makes a western release

NIS America was asked to localise it but they refused, they're pretty much busy with their own games.

"We have a relationship with them, but unfortunately our mission is to release quality titles. Their titles are good, but not good as we expected. That's our reason. They always ask us to localize their titles, but at this moment we answer with 'we're sorry'."

So I guess that the original folk behind do want it localised.

anyway, kthx hadrian.
Was due next week in the US but delayed until 1st August! Why? DNo idea, other versions have been out for a few weeks now so why do North American DS owners have to until August?

But rejoice Mr Pasc as its out in Europe/Australia on the 27th June...for now.

Thanks again, H-Man.

My kids are eagerly awaiting this week. How has our civilization survived with only Tamagotchi 1 and 2 up until now.

On the other hand, I am looking forward to finally playing Arkanoid and Space Invaders Extreme in English. They are both very well-done.
