I'm trying to backup my retail Pokemon Pearl saved game to my G6, then ultimately to my R4.

I read that it can be done with an R4 and a G6 Lite, but I can't seem to figure it out...

Is there a tutorial on how to get eepinator to do this for me?

I currently have the save backed up on my G6 Lites FAT since I did "DS Cart -> File". I have 3 saves now actually.

When I do "File -> DS Cart" however, it does nothing...

My G6 Lite was just recently formatted using the MPUtility, it's current file system is FAT. This should be fine right?

So you've already backed up the save onto your G6? Put it on your computer, then put it on the R4. It should be a 512KB file, and it should not need to be converted. Just rename it.

This is the problem...

The program won't write it to anything...

It goes the same for cart_save. It read and copied the file to my NDS?, but then when I put my G6 Lite back in and had it write to the G6, it copied nothing either... This was for my Final Fantasy VI Advance save that I wanted to grab from my Retail Cart.

It keeps saying it was successful, but then when I check the G6, it has nothing on it.

I patched both eepinator and cart_save with the G6Flash (version 0.19) DLDI.

Will any other DLDI based software write to the G6 successfully? Also, you aren't running eepinator from the R4 menu, are you? the current R4 loader (1.10) will automatically apply the R4 DLDI driver. You need to run eepinator from the G6.

What did you mean by this:

It sounds like you got the save onto the G6. Is that not the case?

I loaded them both from the G6 menu.

With eepinator, I chose "File -> DS", it showed the .sav that I backed up. But when I check the R4 after copying them to it and/or checking the G6, they both show nothing.

You can't use eepinator to write the save to your R4.
To get the save from your G6 to your R4 you do this:
Plug the G6 into your computer.
Copy the .sav file onto your computer. The desktop will do.
Plug the MicroSD card that you use for your R4 into your computer.
Copy .sav file from your computer to the same directory on your R4 that has the Pokemon rom (which is probably the root). Make sure the filename is the same name as the rom so that the rom finds the save.

Eepinator, and every other save backup tool, only works between a slot-2 flashcart and a legit game.

that's all there is to it. EEpinator only works between a slot-2 card

Maybe you don't understand exactly what I am saying.

I put my G6 into my NDS Lite and loaded it up in GBA mode.

I then loaded up cart_save.gba (patched with G6 DLDI).

I copied what the DS called FF6ADVANCE.SAV to my NDS, it then asked me to insert the G6 again.

I then copied the save to the G6, of course it said it was successful.

I put the G6 into the U-Disk and loaded it up on my PC.

The G6 contained no FF6ADVANCE.SAV file anywhere.

I chose for the cart_save.gba program to copy it the root of the G6.

EDIT -

I used the "My Cart" option on the G6 Lite and the FF6ADVANCE.SAV file is clearly there, although when browing the G6 Lite directory on my PC, it shows nothing...

Why is this?

How to transfer NDS saves from retail cart via G6 and EEPINATOR

REQUIRED:
G6 (slot 2)
EEPINATOR (homebrew DOWNLOAD)
Retail Game (I'm using Pokemon Diamond US)

Step 1: Put EEPINATOR on your G6 patched with a G6 DLDI.

Step 2: boot from NDS mode (EEPINATOR.NDS>RUN)

Step 3:
eepinator.png

If your going to back up a save from the retail cart, "DS CART --> FILE" is what you wanna do.
It'll copy the save to your flashcart tittled like so, "POKEMON_D-07-06-16_14.33.42.sav". the numbers are the date of dumping!

Step 4: If restoring save, "FILE -->DS CART". It'll let you select a valid .sav save file from your flashcart and transfer it to the game cart.

I use this for PokeSAV'ing my pokemon files and backing up saves!

How to transfer GBA saves from GBA retail cart via G6 and sendsave

REQUIRED:
GBA flashcart
SendSave (homebrew DOWNLOAD)
Retail Game (I'm using Pokemon Emerald US)

Step 1: Copy Sendsave.GBA to your flashcart (no patching required).

Step 2: Run from GBA mode.

Step 3: Follow the instructions given from sendsave (while your running, it'll walk you through it).

You can also input saves onto GBA carts like EEPINATOR!

I did as you said with the GBA Cart saving, you said no patching required. Now when I use cart_save.gba, it always hangs when writing the save to my G6.

Are you sure it doesn't require patching?

EDIT -

Also, as for eepinator. After dumping my save, I can only view the file in the G6 Lite menu (GBA Mode only), not on the PC and not on the G6 Lites DS menu. Also, the file is a .Mic (2.0MB).

Figured it out. Thanks for all your help guys.

Seems the cart_save.gba did in fact need to be patched.

The GUI didn't work for me though, so I manually patched it and now it works like a charm.
