Hacking ds lite / old ds

Can you help.My kids have a 'Nintendo ds' it'snearly 2yrs old.So its not a 'ds lite'.
My daughter's birthday is next month and she wants a 'ds' of her own which she will get.Yesterday I purchased qty2--M3 ds real rumble packs so they will be able to have a big selection of games each.
My problem is the rumble pack does not fit the old 'ds' due to the overhanging tab.
(1)Can i cut the tab of so it will fit
(2) will it work in the older 'ds'

The cartridge would also be too short to reach the connector pins in the old DS, regardless of the tab. You have to get the bigger shell that fits into the old DS or GBA. You could either get the "official" shell, or you could take a GBA game cartridge, take the PCB out, and place the rumble pack electronics inside. That could be tricky, though. Be careful.

They're only $10.

I think he meant the RAM/Rumble expansion pack to go with the Slot1 card.

If it's only the rumble pack, then I'd suggest getting the official one as well. Simplest solution.
