A few things. First off I changed up formatting by adding cool little text box thingies (forget the "technical" name for them). Second off, here's something new I'd like to introduce: community input!

If I missed a game you really want coverage on then simply send your write up to me (via PM). If it's good enough and follows proper formatting I'll add it here with credit to you! Check the "Other Releases" section at the bottom and see the bolded games to see what games I would want write ups for but am not all too qualified to do myself

If you have a hype thread for a game please post it here or PM it to me so I can start adding them. It'll be a little something new I've decided to add.

Overall though, this month is very good, probably better for most people who weren't looking forward to Pokemon in September.

You can read the Wii version of this thread right here

Some rules and stuff.
Warning: Spoilers inside!

Super Scribblenauts

Developed by: 5th Cell

Despite all the flaws with the original Scribblenauts it was still a game that was a lot of fun to play with and it really is one of my favorite DS games around. That being said, the flaws made it seem the perfect game to get a sequel to sort those out. Super Scribblenauts looks to do just that, and right off the bat the touch screen movement is gone (which was one of my biggest gripes in the first game). Add in adjectives and a whole lot of more vocab and you've got a truly awesome sequel to the surprise smash hit of last year.

Final Fantasy: The 4 Heroes of Light

Developed by: Matrix Software
Published by: Square Enix
Release date: October 5th (America), October 8th (Europe)
Genre: RPG
My Hype Level: Worth a try
GBAtemp Hype Level: FINAL FANTASSSSSSSAAAAAY

I don't have a particularly good track record with Final Fantasy as a main series, but I have become fond of a few of the spinoffs. The DS FFCC games weren't that bad and I was like one of the five people who actually liked the FFCC: The Crystal Bearers. Seeing as this is a spinoff and that it may actually be worth a look, I guess I'm cautiously optimistic for it.

Pokemon Ranger: Guardian Signs

Developed by: Creatures Inc.
Published by: Nintendo
Release date: October 4th (America)
Genre: RPG

Sorry, but Pokemon spinoffs are just bad. Outside of the early Pokemon Stadium games and the TCG game on the GBC, most of them are just boring and bad. The DS of course has more of these spinoffs, with Ranger and Mystery Dungeon both ranking amongst the mediocrity. This is the next Ranger game and I'm pretty much unexcited. I'd rather them spend more time on just making the same old Pokemon RPGs than this stuff.

Rock Band 3

Developed by: Harmonix
Published by: MTV Games
Release date: October 29th (America)
Genre: Music
My Hype Level: If it's anything like Unplugged or Lego, I do want
GBAtemp Hype Level: They don't like the tracklist

Meh, I'll admit the DS got the short end of the full track list, but it's still a good DS rhythm game. I absolutely loved Rock Band Unplugged and Lego Rock Band was sorta like a crappy version of that for the DS (which was still good), so hopefully this may be another good button pressing rhythm game.

Golden Sun: Dark Dawn

Developed by: Camelot Software Planning
Published by: Nintendo
Release date: October 28th (Japan)
Genre: RPG
My Hype Level: I'll wait until next month's English version
GBAtemp Hype Level: OMG OMG OMG OMG

I actually am not looking forward to this, mainly for the useless flood that will accompany it. People, the English version comes out in roughly 1 month. Yet people will be dipshits and ask for a translation anyway or start whining anyway.

But on the game itself, I found I'm one of the few people who thought Golden Sun on the GBA was "alright" at best. It had good graphics and a good battle engine and plenty of depth but in the end it was still a turn based RPG with random battles, a formula we've seen for a long time. Didn't think the narrative was that gripping either but I usually have an uber high standard for storylines in games.

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II

Developed by: LucasArts
Published by: LucasArts
Release date: October 26th (America), October 27th (Australia), October 28th (Europe)
Genre: Action
My Hype Level: Didn't try the first one on the DS
GBAtemp Hype Level: DS version, meh

I have yet to try the first Force Unleashed on the DS but this just seems like a poor cash in on the sequel. Although with the cut of the PSP version they may (hopefully) put more time and effort into the only handheld outing of this game.

Kingdom Hearts Re:coded

Developed by: Square Enix
Published by: Square Enix
Release date: October 7th (Japan)
Genre: Action RPG
My Hype Level: 358/2 Days was bad, Kingdom Hearts is average
GBAtemp Hype Level: KINGDOOOOM HEAAAAARTS

Boxart appropriately sized much appreciated.

I probably won't bother with this game until an English release, but as a game I'm not too excited. The last DS outing, 358/2 Days, was pretty mediocre. Repetitive gameplay, lack of level variety, and all the usual problems associated with Kingdom Hearts. I just don't see this magically fixing all the wrongs with the last DS game, let alone the series. I do have yet to try the other portable outing, Birth By Sleep though. I need a damn PSP charger/USB cable.

Lufia: Curse of the Sinsitrals

Developed by: Neverland
Published by: Natsume
Release date: October 12th (America)
Genre: Action RPG
My Hype Level: Haven't tried Lufia yet
GBAtemp Hype Level: Do want

Boxart provided by phoenixgoddess27, thank you <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Of all the RPG series out there I still haven't given Lufia a try. This may be a good or bad thing depending on how this game shapes out. It could give me a good first impression or a bad one. But still, it's apparently quite a revamped battle system from the original game so I won't let it influence me too much.

Other titles

- Shantae's Risky Revenge: 10/4 (America) [DSiWare]
- Ginga Tetsudou 999: 10/14 (Japan)
- Tokyo Twilight Busters: Kindan no Ikenie Teito Jigokuhen: 10/14 (Japan)
- Intellivision Lives!: 10/15 (America)
- Ivy the Kiwi?: 10/15 (Europe)
- Puzzle Quest 2: 10/15 (Europe)
- Monopoly: 10/21 (Australia), 10/26 (America), 10/29 (Europe)
- Professor Layton and the Lost Future: 10/22 (Europe)
- Bakugan: Defenders of the Core: 10/26 (America)
- The Sims 3: 10/26 (America), 10/29 (Europe)
- Solatorobo: Sore kara Coda e: 10/28 (Japan)

Overall Summary

A good month is ahead! Super Scribblenauts tops my list personally, with Rock Band 3 and Final Fantasy Gaiden coming in behind it. Japanese versions of Kingdom Hearts and Golden Sun are sure to interest some who don't mind a language barrier (or know Japanese) while The Force Unleashed and Pokemon Ranger may provide some "throwaway" entertainment.

Next month is shooters galore! Two Bond games, Goldeneye and Blood Stone are (apparently) dropping on the DS, as well as the new Call of Duty. Sonic Colors also provides some fast paced platforming fun (hopefully) as well as 999, Rune Factory 3, Michael Jackson: The Experience (for handhelds), a new Mario vs. Donkey Kong, and the English version of Golden Sun paving the way for another great month.

Have a nice October!

Wow, you must be one of the few people that doesn't like Golden Sun.

I hate it too.

Can't wait for Shantae though, that'll be amazing.

That's not out until November though, just keep that in mind. For some reason there's some confusion about Black Ops' release date, and it's November 9th across the board (for America at least).

And FFT4WoL is more akin to FFI-III than the CC games... So even if you liked/disliked them doesn't mean you will like/dislike this one.
Also, The Sims 3 omg omg.

I hope that Intellivision Lives compilation doesn't get pushed back again......I really want that one. I've wanted that on DS for years now. For me, all other games take a back seat to that particular compilation.

If I had a DSi then I'll be wanting Shantae's Risky Revenge.

Other than that I'll probably try Super Scribblenauts though the concept has grown tired for me now.
