Nintendo isn't usually that way. (See: Pokemon)

Actually scratch that, I guess Mario is just an exception since NSMB Wii came out here first too...

Actually NSMBW is one of Nintendo's only first party games to come out here in Australia before anywhere else. We were so proud

And Sonic Colours is also as first out in Europe (and Australia?) and as last in Japan

I think it's because Pokémon is developed by a small 2nd party studio, while Mario games are developed using in-house Nintendo Entertainment Analysis & Development which has more resources to localize while it's still being partly developed.

On topic: Has US release is officially nuked or not? It works on AKAIO 1.8.1 but with slowdowns. I tried disabling aap but it doesn't load that way.

There are many factors put into where and when a game's release order is. Pokemon games are first developed for the Japanese audience, while some franchises that do well in Western audiences (Metroid series for example) gets localization pushed out really fast. Sometimes a game is also really easy to localize, and it's easier to print and push a certain quantity of discs in certain regions at different times. The backlash isn't major but fans appreciate universal releases, the problem is it takes a bit more money, logistics, delays, or all three to achieve this.

It appears this game was developed by Nintendo Software Technology which is a first person yet USA based Nintendo Studio.
