Just drop the DS on a hard ground to chip it.

Can elaborate on what it is that you want your DS to do. Do want to be able to play homebrews and roms?

You don't need chip your DS, all you have to do is get a flashcard. There are different types of flashcards, picking one all depends on what you want to use it for and how much you want to spend. I would recommend reading the review section of this website. If you have any questions, just ask it.

I would recommend getting a R4 DS, it can only play NDS backups and homebrews, read about it here:http://gbatemp.net/index.php?showtopic=41279. The only other thing that you would have to buy is a micro sd card.

It goes in the ds slot, yes the micro sd goes in it,
    You can get it here:http://www.realhotstuff.com/r4ds-kingston-microsd-p-190.html
That comes with the micro sd, shipping would cost $7,but they ship fast. Also when you checkout use the code RHS07 to get 5% off.

I would also recommend DealExtreme, but their website is down.

No, it's not. It's been up and running since yesterday.
