That's not true, you've read something fake. Playstation 2 has been released here since 2005*
Yea, still kinda late, but we did not get the PS2 on 2008/2009. That would've been fucking unfair.
You must have probably read about the PS3. But then, the PS3 has been released here last year, so you must have read about another country.
*However, as Sony only was in Brazil starting from 2009, officially, the Playstation 2 has been released November 13th 2009, but you could buy imported ones, which were much more cheap than the "official version".
To get the point across, an imported PS3 with over 100% taxes costed less than the official national PS3 costs now. So it has more to do with corruption and greed than taxes. Don't fall for that bullshit that companies use to overprofit from a developing country. They are just being little bitches about it and aching to mantain a status quo of almost colonialistic proportions.ManFranceGermany said:Lokao0 said:koimayeul said:sucks to be korean on some levels.. and i recall some article about the playstation 2 (yes, the second one!) just been released in Brazil maybe 2 years ago at full price + games

Don't get me wrong, you're Brazilian and u know your stuff, but about this, Im even sure you're wrong.
The ps2 came Officially out just 2 or 3 years ago.
But you're also right saying that you could get the ps2 before too, but it was imported.
Anyways, most people don't see a difference in Price between Imported and officially supported consoles, because of very high Taxes (Consoles are seen from the Government as useless for the society and it has something like luxury Tax) and that sellers put again 50% - 100% on the price.
At least thats how they explained it to me summer 08 in Rio.

yea, but dont u think SONY and Nintendo would make a lot more cash if they would sell it as cheap as in the US or Europe etc.?
I remember that the ps2 was 400 dollar in Rio and in Europe u could get for 79 Euro.
And even if, like in every country, there a lot of rich guys, the masses cant afford that easy to pay such a high amount of money.
And lets be clear, 400 - 500 Euros for a Game console, even here it wouldn't sell that well(One of the Reasons the Ps3 was on the beginning a fail even in the West).
At least the logic of the market economy would be that as more people buy, as cheaper u can make the product and this means more people can afford it.
