Finished the game today, had a lot of fun with it. Figured some people yet to play it may find this useful (taken from gamefaqs board):

Menu translations:
When starting the game without a previous save game the menu options
are as follows:
-Start game This allows you to choose a save slot (4 slots) to start in.
Gallery This is the gallery and all your unlocked art works go in here
Options Options….
-Button config 4 different control settings
--A Y = Shuriken
X = Magic
B = Jump
A = Attack
--B This setting only changes around the Y and A button
--C This switches A and B
--D This keeps the A and B switch, but switches Y with B again:
Y = Attack
B = Shuriken
A = Jump
L and R always make you switch between magic
-SE settings This basically lets you choose between stereo and mono.
The 2 extra options that appear if you saved a game are:
Copy Save This copies your save to another slot
Delete Save This just deletes the save
Making any choice from Start game will prompt you with a yes /no choice,
LEFT is yes, RIGHT is no.
Same for the copy and delete save options.
After starting a New game you can choose between 2 characters:
Kage This is the main char, strong, lots of HP,
shurikens, not a lot of MP
Chihiro The chick character, not that much of hp,
no shurikens but a somewhat stronger chain,
LOTS of Magic power.
Starting a game that you already finished will give you a couple of choices:
Normal your normal finished save game
Hard Hard mode, start with all stats (you will need them)
BOSS RUSH Yeah boss rush, defeat each boss in succession, awesome mode
-start
-return to menu
There might be more stuff but I only finished normal.
After a mission, or after you load a save,
you will wind up at the intermission screen
which will present you with 4 choices:
Choose mission Choose the mission you want to play
Ability list View the ability you want to see,
by selecting it and pressing X
Magic list
Return to Menu
Well the magic list is pretty nicely done, you basically create your own magic
with certain orbs.
There are 4 different orbs:
Orange
Blue
Yellow
And the special Translucent ones
If you don’t have any translucent ones yet, just try to link up
any 3 orbs together
OR 4 of the same type,
ex.: 2 yellow and 1 blue, or 1 of each type.
The translucent ones only work with 3 of the same type, or 1 from each type.
Obviously you won’t know what your magic does,
but thankfully this game lets you test whatever you just made,
by pressing X in the magic list screen.
Also on the right in this screen everything that is RED is an active spell,
and everything that is GREEN isn’t,
this way you can easily see which combination is active
if you have a lot of orbs in there.
Remember switch between magic in game by pressing L/R.
