Hello.:)

I got an Dreamcast which was described with this Issue.

Modell PAL E - HKT-3030

When it is powered on for the first Time the Dreamcast boots up into the Menu but after exactly 10 Seconds the Screen goes black.
When it is re-bootet the same happens, everytime after exactly 10 Seconds.
Disconnected from Power (for a few Minutes,Hours or Days) every boot up the same.

What I have tried:

- Different Power Sockets / Distribution Sockets
- Different Power Cables (with/without Ferritcore)
- with/without GD-Emu
- with/without GD-Rom
- 4 different Power Supplies (2 Original,1 Universal) and a DreamPSU.
- checked the Mainboard of maybe Shortcuts (Visual Test)
- boot up with/without Controller
- tried different Controller (original) with/without Memory Unit (original).
- the FAN is ok and running
- 2 AV Cables (1 Original,1 Third Party)
- All tested Accessories / Cables are working with my other Dreamcast.

So I think it can only be the Mainboard.
Do you have any Ideas which Section/Part/Circuit can I especially check please ?

Thank you for any Help and Advises from you, fellow GBAtemp Users.:)

Thank you for your Answer.:)
Can you maybe "Point" me in the right Direction please ?

And I think I maybe "found" something:

The FAN "Connector" looks not really like the Original one:

I found a Fan and a Katana Sub Board on Aliexpress.

Maybe the Dreamcast "thinks" the Fan is not running and power it "off" ???
Thats why it always happens after exact 10 Seconds....

There is a cap inside the red spot that affect the video...you Will need to search what is the right One...

About the fan..try to boot without the fan conected to see If the game even Power on...

You could use a multi-meter to test continuity with the pins.

I would google search for Dreamcast service manual, I’d link to it but I’m not sure if it would be allowed.

These usually contain diagnostic steps for certain issues, haven't had a chance to read it though.

As I thought,without the FAN the same,exactly 10 Seconds.:)
So it is maybe really the Board/Fan Connector.

Thank you for your Advise.I will google for it.:)
EDIT: Found it.

I think I got one Step further with the FAN Connector/Katana Sub Board.
I am pretty sure this is the "10 Second Power Down" Reason...:)

EDIT: I will disassemble my other Dreamcast and check it.

Thank you for your Help,my Friends.:)

It has really to do with that FAN Connector.
The PINS are to big (the Distance and the Pins themselves).
So the Dreamcast gets not the "Signal" that the Fan is working (but the FAN is working).
Also I tried it on the other Dreamcast without the FAN connected and it has an instantly Black Screen.
But I think it is a "newer" Revision because the Board Components looks a little different and it has a metal FAN.

"Defect" Board...................................."Good" Board".................................

With the "swapped" Sub Board the Dreamcast works now.yeah.gif

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

You could use a multi-meter to test continuity with the pins.

I would google search for Dreamcast service manual, I’d link to it but I’m not sure if it would be allowed.

I have read "a little" in the overwhelmed Manual (Service Manual Dreamcast EU - 148 Pages)...
I think that is a little "to high" for me......

But I really appreciate your Help.
Thank you for your Tip.:)

i dont know why tv manufactures put the hdmi ports in dumb locations so the cables have to stick out, and then down, putting strain on the ports. Instead of having the ports along the bottom edge of the tv facing downwards.
