Hacking Dragon Quest VI: Realms of Revolution Save File Errors

Hi. Sorry if this is the wrong place to post this, but I think it's the most appropriate spot to do so. Anyway, I'm using an R4i Gold 3DS flashcart from r4ids.cn with R4 Wood 1.64 from that same place. All roms work on it perfectly, including ones with anti-piracy. Dragon Quest VI has some issues though. When I try to create a new save file, it gets stuck on "Creating a new adventure log". The game hasn't crashed completely, as I can still hear the music playing. I can get around this by starting on DeSmuMe, then transferring the save to the flashcart. However, the game then gets stuck after the beginning dream sequence, right after a textbox indicating someone screaming. Even if I get around that with DeSmuMe, this same error will persist if I leave town or save.

Things I've tried:
Adjusting save type: Didn't work, I tried both increasing and decreasing it
Formatting SD Card (Sandisk 32 GB): No difference
Using anti-piracy patches/AR Codes: Any patches were taken down, and AR Codes did nothing
YSMenu: I couldn't seem to find a version compatible with my flashcart; any I tried would either get a white screen or deliver an unsupported DLDI error

Thanks! I did try a second rom, with both being unmodified, though they both encountered the same issue.

Strange. It seems there were bad sectors in the SD Card despite it being new. I must've done that somehow. Anyway, thanks for the help!
