Misc Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker Wi-Fi

I just tried the Wi-Fi tournament for Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker yesterday, and I thought it might be interesting to have a topic where we could discuss the daily tournament.

For those that haven't tried it out, here's how it works: Essentially, you register your team with the Nintendo server. Your team has to be monsters of 3 different types (not different families, just monster type). You submit your team unequipped. Once you submit your team, you can download the daily tournament (Wildcard World Cup). The daily tournament consists of 5 matches against ranked teams that other people have submitted. For winning those matches, you get prizes.

There are Worldwide Tournaments (Not active yet), Regional Tournaments, and Special Tournaments. The prizes for the Regional Tournament change every day, and we can use this thread to list the day's prizes. The Special Tournament also changes every day, so feel free to list that too. Some days there are incredible prizes offered, some days they aren't so great. Logic dictates that the tournament will probably be harder on the days when first prize is something special, like a very rare demo download monster.

Just a warning - there are a lot of DQMJ geeks out there, and the regional tournament encompasses all of the Americas. The tournament is actually really hard. Yesterday, for instance, I signed up with a pretty highly leveled team of two Rank A monsters and one Rank S monster. I got my ass handed to me by the team ranked #100. So I went back to the drawing board and created a team with two Rank S monsters and one Rank X. Hopefully today I'll fare a little better.

Anyway, sorry for the long post, but I thought it might be fun if there were any other DQMJ tempers out there who wanted to discuss anything and everything about the wi-fi tourney. If people show any interest, I'll try to continue updating the daily prizes. Cheers.

I'm hestitant to fool with it because I've read so many posts on Gamespot saying that the majority of teams are rigged using cheats. I would, however, love to get ahold of any monsters that are exclusive to online, but not sure if it's worth the trouble.

That's unfortunate, but true. I wish the AR codes hadn't come out so quickly. People are altering stats, leveling up super fast, and staying in the metal menagerie longer than allowed. They're using these cheats to build uber teams and registering them. The connection screen warns that any AR cheaters will be banned, but apparently they haven't or can't fix it.

I have my clean team of:

Zoma (X)
Draculard (S)
Black Dragon (S)

They're all about level 34-35 with good skill sets, and I'm still getting my ass kicked in the tourney. My rank was 190 yesterday, and probably won't be much higher than that today.

It really sucks that there isn't a level playing field, but I'll probably keep synthesizing and trying to get somewhere with a clean team. I think it's more satisfying that way.

Yesterday I was 2nd on the regionals. (JPN - Team Risen) 46 hours of synthesizing and training didn't go to waste. =p Too bad so many people are hacking now. Tons of them have the same names for their monsters. Which all are from the save posted on Gamefaqs.

Wow. Great prize today. You get a Lost Katana, which has a great attack boost. All you have to do is beat the teams ranked 10,9,8,7,6 and team #7 has a hacked gem slime with 999 HP. Terrific. This is getting ridiculous. You would think there would be some simple algorithms they could use to check for obvious cheaters.

Just a correction from my original post. You definitely can use your incarnus on your team. Quite useful as you can synth your incarnus into some pretty cool adult forms with great skill sets.

The note on the connection screens says the World-Wide tournament will be up and running by Spring 2008. Maybe EA will figure out how to ban cheaters by then.

Few days ago that Gem Slime had around 200 HP (I killed it barely) This is getting really ridiculous now. Also, do you mean SE and not EA? >> The hackers make me sad...

Yeah, I meant SE. Wrote that too quickly.

Leopold is back up for grabs today, but to get him, you have to beat teams 5,4,3,2,1 which is damn near impossible for someone that hasn't cheated, or leveled since the minute they bought the game.

It's too bad it's gotten this way. Leopold is an awesome prize, and will only ever be available as a prize. You can synth him with your incarnus to get Ace of Spades, and there's no other way to achieve that. Oh well.

I just tried today. For some strange reason, I thought I would be paired with opponents near the same level as my own.

So, I went in with my level 12, 10 and 8 monsters.

Obviously I was easily crushed.

Off topic - I haven't tried synthing yet. What should be my first one?

Well I had to trade a few monsters to get Robbin and Empyrea. Which I then used to get Wildcard or whatever Incarni monster it is. So I really have no idea if they're needed or not. I think they are though.

Darn, my team dropped. I suppose I must admit to trading for a couple of monsters from a hacker to get the Draculord that I have now, but in all fairness I did spend hour upon hour training them. And not using codes like most people do. Also, I think someone (I forgot where) stated something about several teams on the rankings that have monsters with weird names. And also just converted his JP save to a R4 save and playing it on the English version only to get it to work.

You're back up to team #3 Twiffles. Did you strengthen your team? Or did some of the hackers get bumped down?

Today's prizes are quite achievable, but not very good. Yipee.

After hours and hours of leveling, I can now say with confidence that a fully leveled Cluboon Ace is not a good idea. He almost never survives the first round. My Alabast Dragon and Estark are performing well though. I just wish I had given Estark a great healing skill for his first action.

I'd love to hear about other peoples strategies for constructing their wi-fi team. Anyone got some good tips that don't involve cheating?

man, ive got dragovian lord, dr. snapped, and a metal king slime (which im hoping to synth into a gem slime soon) and over 100 hours of play and im still getting pwned on wi fi..... it makes me sad :-(

That's a really impressive team you have there.

When I stopped playing, I had a level 73 Estark (X +14), a level 81 Rhapthorne (X +20), and an Alabast Dragon I was trying to synch into something or other. It got to the point where wi-fi was so full of cheaters and hacked teams that it wasn't even remotely fun. Plus, the daily prizes were just repeating for quite a long time.

This game badly needed wi-fi battling or trading with Friends. That would have been epic.

Oh well, maybe I'll pick it back up someday. I still think it's one of the best RPG's on the system.
