Never played a dragon quest game in my life before but always interested… should I play this one first or DQXI first 🤔?
If you're interested in the series, my first entry was the original Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King on the PS2. Highly recommended.

It is beginner friendly on all counts, and it has an excellent soundtrack, amazing graphics, and nice presentation all around. Level-5's best work, in my opinion.

I’ve actually installed DQ8 on my 3DS… maybe I’ll start with it, thank you

Not sure if I should try ...

I completed 1 and 2 not long ago and got kinda annoyed as those old games were not only hard but also confusing... I did start part 3 (of course not the remake) but at some point I just didn't really want to go on.

Got stuck so often in the previous ones even with faqs as I often didn't know where to go or what to do and it didn't feel any less confusing in part 3.
Imagine how we felt playing these games pre-internet. We were lucky to have a strategy guide, if we could even afford one. All we had were our wits and prior rpg experience.

I think best buy really messed up their preorders of this game. I purchased the game for the ps5, got no dlc code, and on best buy's website, it shows that I haven't picked it up. I picked it up today, so I changed it to ship, and it says I'll get the game on Saturday. am I getting a second copy of this game due to a screw up? maybe that's why they never emailed me the dlc code?

also, the type a and b personality thing is really messed up, so I now have two female characters with male voices. I didn't realize you could hear the voice before selecting one. naturally, I assumed all personalities were going to be male or female based on the "sex" I had selected.

Dragon Quest III is a traditional RPG to the fullest extent. So it can feel a bit dated at time as it was an RPG from 1988. If you are used to playing RPGs of the era I recommend it yes. But if you are looking for something more modern check out XI.

Really DQ1 wasnt hard to get through. There was so little to it that you couldn't get completely lost past maybe that 1 key to the grave dungeon. DQ2... yeah that game gets extremely vague.

I saw that they have censored some small aspects of the game. I don't think it is a huge deal and will still play it but it is annoying how developers keep doing this. I don't think I have ever heard a single gamer say "this game is great but I wish it had more censorship." So I don't understand why they keep doing this. I am Christian myself and I don't think they needed to censor the priest costumes. It is just a game and I really doubt that Christians would have been that offended by them. I don't even really get why that would be offensive to Christians in the first place.
I agree with you, but you're a bit wrong with one part. It's not the devs who chose to censor the game, it was the publisher who said so. The devs actually were highly against it and there even was a stream with them about it. (that was deleted, so you'll have to find clips of it or unaltered reuploads, if you want to see it)
Why did they choose to do this? I won't go into details, because this isn't the place for it, but censorship is mainly done because of some stupid western pressures.

Hopefully mods are going to be made for this.

It's not a big deal but it's enough to remove some slight enjoyment or excitement imo. What annoys me is the troll tbh. It literally was just a troll, I don't think that anyone got offended because it had big lips, to me it looked nothing like a caricature of any ethnicity.

What's crazy is how they tweeted in japanese to say that « it was taken out of context » .... and instead of giving the context, they proceed to delete what they can.
... Yeah, that was the context, SE just couldn't stand by what Horii said.

)The game still has actual genders so I'm not so upset with the censorship stuff (even though it's Appearance A and B, there's gender locked equipment and the game clearly mentions hero (A) or heroine (B) so at least there's that)).

okay, I received the preorder download code, and they shipped me a second copy of the game, when I only paid for one. if I return the game to best buy, will I get in trouble for having the preorder dlc code used? surely, they know which code was used for the returned game, I think, so would that be traced back to my account? would I get into trouble?

I'm very certain they have no record of what digital code emailed to you is associated to which exact physical game you bought.

If you were to order 10 of the same game and get 10 preorder dlc codes and use 5 of the codes, you can return any 5 games.

(If I understood your situation correctly!)

I don't know about a specific version of the game, but it does have in the invoice that I received a dlc code, and it mentions the dlc code, so I'm not sure if I can get in trouble for their own mistake. I'd like to return the game, because it's the right thing to do, but I'll likely just sit on it. I've spent thousands of dollars on psn stuff, so I don't want to get involved in any funny business so to speak. I've been banned once before, and I lost all account stuff, so I try to take no chances now.
