Dragon Quest Heroes: Rocket Slime 3DS translation released
lgnmcrules dropped by to share news that the translation for 2011's Slime Mori Mori Dragon Quest 3: Daikaizoku to Shippo Dan, aka Dragon Quest Heroes: Rocket Slime for the 3DS, has been released. The translation crew are also stylising this as Dragon Quest Heroes Rocket Slime: Pirate and Platywag. The Slime series is one of the various Dragon Quest spinoffs with this one stretching back to the GBA, though prior to this only the DS entry has seen an English translation (official or otherwise). For those unfamiliar with the game then if you imagine the 2d Zelda titles, just with a lot more humour, then you are 90% of the way there. You control the titular slime and series mascot as you explore an open world, adding creatures to your party and in this case getting into ship battles.
The DS entry was a hit when it arrived in English, was featured in the first edition of the GBAtemp game of the week, and otherwise was well enjoyed by many around here. This then forms one of the few 3ds games to take a concept and actually run with it. You can also read a review of the Japanese game from lgnmcrules if you want a bit more of an overview. 1up.com (RIP) also provided a nice impressions video many years ago if you prefer things in video form.
The authors themselves note some formatting still needs to be done so there will be further patches but it is playable as is. Right now the patching setup is built around Luma3DS v7.2 and up so you will need that, hopefully some more formats will be made for a later release.
