Dragon Quest 35th Anniversary Special roundup - Dragon Quest XII revealed

Dragon Quest kicked off its 35th-anniversary celebration with several announcements, including news of the much-awaited follow up to one of its most successful JRPGs of the last 20 years. The first of the six new games revealed was a remake of one of the first games in the series: the now rather bizarrely named Dragon Quest III HD-2D. The game is being overseen by Octopath Traveler producer Masaaki Hayasaka, so it will come as no surprise that it looks and plays similarly to Octopath Traveler. Dragon Quest III HD-2D is slated for a worldwide simultaneous launch, though Square Enix did not announce an official release date or give any information as to what system the game will be available for.

Next up was the announcement of Dragon Quest X Offline. This is the long rumoured offline version of the Japanese-only MMORPG. The offline version of the game has a completely new look compared to the online version. Just like before, we're left in the dark as to what platforms it'll release on, but it will be out sometime in 2022 for Japan.

We then got news of a Dragon Quest XI spin-off game called Dragon Quest Treasures--again slated for a worldwide release. The game is set a few years before the events of XI and stars Erik and Mia as they hunt the world for treasure. Not much was said about the game other than it is not a JRPG.

This was followed up by news About Dragon Quest X Online with the announcement that Version 6 of Dragon Quest X Online is on the way later in 2021. This is still exclusive to Japan.

The 5th game announced was Dragon Quest Keshkeshi. Not much was said about this upcoming title, but we do know that it's a puzzle game for iOS and Android. It releases sometime in Japan in 2021. An overseas release is unconfirmed.

The final reveal was the one everyone has been waiting for: Dragon Quest XII: Flames of Fate. Sadly, all we got was a brief trailer showing the logo for the game. Series creator Yuji Horii said DQXII would be more adult in content and he also hinted at some changes to the traditional turn-based battle system, and that Square Enix was aiming for a simultaneous worldwide release. Again no announcement of what systems the game will be for.

I still own the original dragon quest vi for the super famicom. I think it's complete. there's a really shitty white and blue map that comes with it. it's on my shelf still. I'm not sure how far I got in it though, just don't remember. I think you were over at my house when we plier'd the tabs off my snes to enable super famicom games to be run.
Oh yeah, haha, I remember bringing that clipping tool from my father that was used on my SNES. I only ever got imports of FF5, Front Mission, and for some reason Secret of Mana even though I already had it in English and never finished any of them. Now it's just a SNES with wobbly, unstable cartridges.

I have no idea where my snes is. I'm using a retron 3 hd, but removing cartridges is a major pita. I've heard of people breaking some of the teeth inside the cartridge slot, just trying to move a cartridge, so the retron 3 creator made a video of how to remove a cartridge. it still doesn't work very well.

I literally nearly yelled from the hype last night.

The remake of DQ3 looks absolutely beautiful and DQXII announcement easily made up for everything else from the stream.

Here's hoping they also remake 4.5.6.. But I'm sure they will remake 1.2. first before the zenithian saga. I already sold my ds copies so it would be great if they can rerelease the phone version of 4.5.6. or give it an hd-2d remake.

DQ III HD-2D looks bad. The great jRPG copying its own bleak shadow.

It looks really bad. So bad, that I might have to pre-order it.

Wow my little news story has over a thousand views in less than 24 hours of it being posted :D

It's literally THE news. Horizon is looking good, too.

Given DQ's nature, the games will most likely release on the Switch.
That DQ 3 looks really good though. Only downside of 3 was that the party felt a bit lifeless, hopefully they can add some life to it.

That Dragon Quest III HD-2D YouTube looks divine.

Game Freak, please nab somebody - anybody - from that Developer Team and get them working on setting the Visual Style and Art Direction of the next Pokémon Games.

Otsukaresama deshita.

I'm glad DQ3 is getting better treatment than the android monstrosity that's currently selling on Nintendo Switch. I wish 1-6 could get full makeovers like this, but I'm sure that'd get a bit expensive.

People love their dragon quest.

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

they better not change the combat in 12 and ruin it like FF did
I don't mind changes, but if they make it like final fantasy 13 or 15... *shudder*

However, I actually liked combat in the 7 "remake", which is really like a new game.

Thing is , the videos work fine in the Edge Dev and Canary builds. But whatever the fix the made was, has never been piushed to Beta or Stable builds. Its been that way for as far back as I tested. Which was Edge 84. They are on 125 now.

@RedColoredStars, Yeah, and I was in quite a mood at that time. I would consider choosing Firefox or Opera instead, been using Firefox for over 7 years now than Chrome.
  • RedColoredStars @ RedColoredStars:
Tried contacting Nintendo to see if they can reach out to MS about it. But Nintendo said the videos are working fine. Without enough people saying no, they don't work fine, it will never get fixed.

I have Firefox and used it for many years. But Edge runs noticible faster on my pc at both opening and loading pages.
