According to tests done by GameXplain, downloading games or other content on the Switch is around 15% faster than when you're downloading with just the home menu open with the system "on". They forgot to mention in the video that they had another guy to test it too, and he had the same results. Guess who's downloading on sleep mode now.

I wonder how that works.
I guess whenever I download more games, I'll download them in sleep mode from now on

Well I redownloaded snake pass today and I tried sleeping the console halfway through while monitoring my bandwidth with my enterprise level router. I didn't notice any difference.

Well along with GameXplain, many others have reported that it is indeed faster. Maybe you didn't pay attention properly or you'd need to check with your Switch instead. And don't do it halfway through.

Maybe their internet speed fluctuates. I measure raw throughput in Mbps, not using a stopwatch to time it. Maybe their data is flawed.

In any case, it's not worth my time to investigate. The 2 minutes I would save by putting the console to sleep is meaningless to me as I purchase physical carts, and even if it's a digital only game I would either be playing another game on my Switch or PC or watching something or taking a shit, fucking my waifu, working or not even home while it's downloading.

On a side note, does anyone know if you purchase a digital game online if it automatically downloads to a sleeping Switch? Say if I am at work and want to buy a game and have it download before I get home. Has anyone tried this?

If your Switch is connected to the internet, then yes. I haven't tried it myself but Nintendo claims so.
