Gaming Downloading Games and Running them off of an External Hard Drive?

Is there a way to do this?
I have a game I want, I've already downloaded it.
Is it possible to run it off of an External Hard Drive?

Prerequisites for playing games from HDD is a PS3 console that is on 3.55 firmware.

If you have a 3K Slim/4K SuperSlim console, forget about it and you'll need an Optical Drive Emulator
