To make the game work on lower firmware.
Are .edat files automatically removed after being transferred to the exdata folder like the .rap files after being converted to .rif?

Not that I know of.
You can skip them, at least I can. All they did was modify the eboot.bin - If you dont play online then nothing to worry about. You have the custom directors piracy cut edition definitive beta.Ugh, it's like the long, unskippable shitty Mode-7 intros on GBA ROMs back in the day.
Google it and you will understand. Then I don't understand why RAP files are as well as RAP files are converted to another format (RIF) unlike EDAT ones which are also created in the same directory as RIF files.

Edats are generic, so they can be unlocked without the license.
Yes, they're not a rif.
Cobra didn't always exist.
Most duplex releases have orig.eboot.bin inside same folder. Delete custom eboot.bin and rename og to eboot.binOmg man , that's a big question, in 6 months not even you will understand what you meant : )) . EDAT were available before Cobra, yes, usually for C00 games . To get rid of that Duplex logo , you need to grab the original EBOOT.BIN from your disc and replace the modified one .

In the past I downloaded arcade games that came with pkg unlockers and edats, but now I just get the pkg + rap instead. Simpler and cleaner.
Anyway, didn't know DUPLEX did that shit. I remember it during the GBA days and, um, okay. PS3? Wtf. Just no.
Where I dl'ed arcade games from it was strictly pkg + rap, no edat.
I'll be checking the PS3 game folders to see they don't have that custom eboot.
Thanks for the tip, @Donnie-Burger.
If you see 2 eboots the eboot.bin is most likely modified and if a 2nd eboot is there should be labeled orignal.eboot.bin or accordingly. Remove custom eboot and rename og to eboot.bin. You can test this with duplex releases. I remember god of war ascension I had to do this.Where I dl'ed arcade games from it was strictly pkg + rap, no edat.
