Homebrew downgrading japanese New 3DS with SmashHax (or: using oot3dhax with region free)

Thanks for the confirmation, I thought this would be the case.
Is there a way to start oot3dhax with an out of region cartridge? I've got a PAL game here, which I used to downgrade other systems.

at this point you have more experience with this problem than anyone else in this thread, and so far all your testing has come up negative. again i would say that the quickest resolution to your issue would probably be to buy oot from the eshop and use smashhax to set up the payload for the digital oot.

Looks like it. Problem is, I just want to get the savegames from some digital games out (won't work on all savegames with only *hax)
to put them on my EUR N3DSXL, so 5,000Yen only for that is a bit steep. Will wait for a discount.
Should have gotten OoT3D instead of Kid Icarus Uprising in this promotion from japanese Club Nintendo years ago where you could choose a download code for each two games you registered...

You don't even need to downgrade to do that. Put SVDT on your card, boot the homebrew launcher with smashhax, then use it to back up your saves.

EDIT: Nevermind, I guess you said there are some games that you can't back up with SVDT?

Are you sure all the files from the homebrew starter.zip are correctly on the SD card? OoTHax looks for a different file than SmashHax when starting.

Yes, I've got the 3DS folder with the homebrew, the boot.3dsx which is the homebrew loader and the smashpayload.bin for my exact firmware which is used by smashHax.

Only thing I can think is that maybe it's installing the wrong version for your cart/3DS (I don't know which one needs to match).

With the latest oot3dhax installer in the starter-pak, when you can select the firmware for your 3DS, there is 2 entries for JPN. It's like JPN->USA->EUR->JPN->etc.
