DOOM 64 has been rated for a re-release by PEGI

EAcEmm9W4AEzF0g.jpg

Following Bethesda's sudden release of the original trilogy of classic DOOM titles, another new tidbit of information has come to light, regarding the series. DOOM 64, which released in 1997--for as the name denotes, the Nintendo 64--has been rated by the European software board, PEGI. It was then quickly removed from sight on the PEGI webpage, but it was screenshotted by Gematsu prior to removal. The PEGI rating shows that the game had a release date of July 26, 2019, though it obviously didn't release yesterday alongside the other DOOM games. It also was rated for PC and PlayStation 4, and though no Xbox One or Nintendo Switch versions were rated, the latter platforms also lacked a PEGI rating for DOOM I, II, and 3, meaning DOOM 64 will still likely release for all modern platforms when it does inevitably launch.

It's been 22 years...

Seriously, this game never got a re-release! sure, it has it's own Total Conversions, but it's only been playable officially on a Nintendo 64!
Hype!

great another doom game with online DRM :creep:

That also has a sourceport on PC in various forms. Meaning it can also be ported to a certain hybrid console...

holy shit, the controls were incredibly terrible!

Welcome to why some consider a lot of games from the early PS1\N64 (I'd argue even PS2 for some games' controls) to have aged poorly!

My favorite Doom title is being slated for an official re-release on modern platforms? Whaaaaat? If it comes to Switch it'll be an instant buy.

Why do people like it? I heard only complains when it was released.

Edit: Ah right, Turok: Dinosaur Hunter was way better. Can't help but to agree even if Doom 64 musical score is quite good for having the crappy N64 audio quality.

Sourceports have improved the controls as they aren't limited to the N64's controller that wasn't exactly what I'd call a standard controller layout!

they aren't. they are perfect.
in doom you only need to walk and strafe, vertical aim is automatic, you can't look up or down.
also if you don't agree with the control scheme, doom 64 and ps1 have fully remappable buttons.

People have always complained about the N64, and it's controller. That is fair. It was weird and uncomfortable. Doom 64 is easily one of the more underrated entries in the series because of this. That and how dark it was. I always had a blast playing it. I also remember the mega cheat. :D

I just hope they're not using unity this time.

Lol, why would they want to use that? Probably lost the original source code and have to reverse-engineer it. Worked for Silicon studios when they did FFIX on Steam
It's hilarious that Bethesda is forcing users to sign up for their shitty service just to log in to a game that was released near 30 years ago. "But muh anti-piracy!"

They ported 1 and 2 over in unity. Kinda sad, really.

I don't mind that so much as being forced to make a BNet account for an old game. Total dick move. I hope the games get pirated more.

Forced DRM like this is only something pusillanimous devs do.

As long as this one feels better than Doom64ex. Don't get me wrong. I enjoyed my time in that as well. However it just never felt right. Mouse look always had a weighted feel to it.

what is so bad about the port to unity? serious question.
as long as the game works as intended, I don't see what's the problem.

Why couldn't they use the original source? Why Unity? Well, they used it for FFIX and the port was a horrible mess (90% of the sound effects were badly emulated) and took a guy months to fix them all, among other things. Backgrounds looked like they were smeared with petroleum jelly.

the original source runs at 35fps, I'm guessing they did the port to unity to get rid of that and as an exercise.

My interest in Doom died with Doom 2 anyway.

I would honesty prefer an updated re-release of Duke Nuken 3D.
