At first I thought I was imagining it. Then I thought it was just a coincidence. But it's not! When people become mods, they... change. It's subtle at first, but it's there. It's like getting a job. Or getting married to someone who disapproves of your friends. Moderation is too much work. It may seem fun to have that kind of influence, but that's how it sneaks up on you. People who've been active before become sluggish. People who've waxed poetically and spent time mulling over long meandering posts start blurting out short unrelated witticisms, or dry, formal jabs. They are too busy scouting the threads in pursuit of spam and harsh or offensive language to participate in the interesting threads, or to contribute as much as they used to. "Come play with us, mthr!" "Not now, sweetie, mthr has to work." My God! Becoming a mod turns people into mature, responsible individuals before our very eyes! It's like they got a job and can't play with the rest of us any more. Every time, without fail! Look at what it does to people! I think that if Shadowboy ever became a mod, he'd stop watching hentai! Global admins, stop taking people away from us by promoting them to mods!

Haha, dunno if it's true, I'm not involved enough to notice I think. I wouldn't want to be a moderator though, as you say too much work. It does give you some status though, or at least the idea of it. [IMG]

    I just kuh-new you'd mention me... lol..

mthr is a single daddy of two.. I know I don't photoshop as much as I used to, that slowed down when the wife took off and I got the kids full time. I did get busier when I became a mod, but not to the point of ignoring interesting stuff. When I went global, it got even busier.. but now that I'm a SUPERVIZIER, I can just kick back and let Ace do all the work, LOL, so you'll be seeing a bit more of me. Also I'm setting up to do bigger things with the site, like my corner of the podcast, and hopefully a T-shirt or two, but I'm still in here with you guys. Plus everybody was giving me crap about not being on IRC, and so I'm around there a fair amount too.

    YOU WORRY TOO MUCH!

Ok, gotta go... these lips won't shampoo themselves!

If no one ever got promoted to a mod, then the forums would end up going unmoderated. You really wouldn't want that. Trust me.

Yes, some of them may show a marked change in their behavior since becoming a mod. This is to be expected since they now have more responsibility here. In fact, I would be more surprised and concerned if their behavior didn't change a bit.

I will always support the mods to run things as they see fit. Even if that statement might bite me in the ass sometimes. Even pirates need SOME discipline.

So, since I've been on staff for awhile now, having a couple holes drilled in my skull and then a rod rammed through my brain a few times should be a piece of cake?

I used to be a cool, interesting, funny person.
Then I was hired in the team and became the most boring person on earth.

Hmm.. on second thought, I've always been boring. [IMG]
